You Can Now Play As Squirrel Girl in Marvel Heroes, And She’s Maybe Kind Of Awesome?

Her squirrel sidekick is named Monkey Joe, and that's about as much sense as this character ever makes.

Marvel Heroes, the Marvel Universe MMORPG penned by Brian Michael Bendis, already allows you to combat evil as a bunch of your favorite superheroes. They’ve even got some obscure-ish folks on the roster, like Cable, Rocket Raccoon, and Nova. But, guys, everything is about to get awesome, because now – now you can play as Squirrel Girl.

Created for Marvel in 1992 by Steve Ditko and Will Murray, Squirrel Girl and her fuzzy sidekick Monkey Joe have the ability to control legions of squirrels. Also, she can talk to squirrels. And she has “squirrel-like abilities.”

I think you can see where I’m going with this.

Squirrel Girl was a member of the Great Lakes Avengers, and now she moonlights as Luke Cage’s nanny while attending NYU, where I’m sure she’s super-popular. In her trailer for Marvel Heroes, Ms. Marvel (eternally flawfree) just straight-up laughs in Squirrel Girl’s face.

In all seriousness, though, I really want to use her squirrel-summoning powers. That looks terrifying.
