Shots Were Fired at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Trump administration threatened after a shooting breaks out at the White House Correspondents' Dinner

President Donald Trump was rushed off stage after a shooter infiltrated the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC. Politicians from the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, as well as the members of the press, took cover as US Secret Service agents subdued the man.

The man responsible for the incident was identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, a resident of California. He reportedly shot one US Secret Service member, who has been hospitalized.

Kaitlan Collins from CNN tweeted on X, “We are inside the ballroom of the Hilton. One service agent told me the shooter is confirmed dead. Agents swarmed the room within minutes of shots being heard, running down the main aisle. But because cabinet officials are seated throughout the room, many of them remained on the floor, crouched under tables as the president was evacuated from the stage.”

Olivia Reingold from The Free Press recorded herself and others crouched down beside the tables and chairs. At the time, she did not know if there was a shooting taking place.

Misha Komadovsky from DW News noted the lax security, as only an invite was required for entry into the event. Komadovsky’s sentiment was corroborated by Leda Health CEO Madison Campbell, who also thought security was unusually lax for a White House event. But other members of the press also claimed that screening through metal detection was still required before entering the ballroom.

The president made a series of social media posts after the shooting. He wrote on Truth Social, stating that he, along with the first lady, vice president, and all cabinet members, is “in perfect condition.” He also said that the White House Correspondents’ Dinner will be rescheduled “within 30 days.”

Trump also posted various photos of the shooter on his social media account.

Trump’s remarks post-shooting

Trump held a press conference after the unsettling event that took place at the Washington Hilton Hotel. He said, “This was an event dedicated to freedom of speech. It was supposed to bring together members of both parties and members of the press, and in a certain way, it did.”

But oddly enough, in the same speech, Trump used the shooting incident as a justification to build the White House Ballroom. He said midway, “It’s actually a larger room, and it’s much more secure. It’s got its drone proof. If it’s bulletproof glass, we need the ballroom.”

Trump was not alone in advertising the sentiment. Meghan McCain said in support of Trump’s message: “I don’t want to hear one more fucking criticism of Trump’s new ballroom at the White House.”

GOP Gov. Jeff Landry wrote that the shooting is “yet another reason” why Trump’s ballroom should be built. Never mind that the ballroom and the US Secret Service’s efficiency at securing the president are two different discussions. The influx of right-wing figures advocating for Trump’s ballroom stirred speculation that the attack was merely a false flag.

Alleged false flag at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Aside from the mass of pro-ballroom arguments that flooded social media, comments from Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt became the subject of speculation. When asked about the president’s speech for the night, Leavitt remarked, “He is ready to rumble. This speech tonight will be classic Donald J. Trump. It will be funny, it will be entertaining, and there will be some shots fired tonight in the room, so everyone should tune in.”

Several political commentators found the wording of her speech suspicious, with one calling to “investigate” the press secretary. Others thought that the speech was far too coincidental to be unplanned.
