She worked as a personal assistant for a YouTube beauty guru. Then her boss allegedly turned her into a maid
Chelsea Shackel (@chelseabellee) lodged an exposé against an unnamed YouTube beauty influencer she worked for. While initially working as a personal assistant, Shackel alleged that she slowly became her boss’s maid.
“I used to work for a pretty famous makeup artist back in the YouTube makeup guru, the peak of it all. And these are some of the diabolical things she started having me do to ultimately make me quit,” Shackel told TikTok. At first, Shackel said she was working on makeup sets with the YouTube guru as a personal assistant. Eventually, Shackel said that the “bigger name people” started recognizing her work. They allegedly started liking her for her work.
“I’m starting to really fit in and shine in this environment—that’s when she kinda had a flip, and I never saw set again,” Shackel alleged. Instead of meeting up with her on sets and doing makeup, Shackel claimed she was made to do “maid tasks.”
“The first one being, she had fine glitter explode in a suitcase, and she wanted me to clean it out,” Shackel said. She added that it was impossible to get all the glitter out, but after three hours, she removed most of it. However, Shackel alleged the YouTube guru still reprimanded and yelled at her because she couldn’t clear all the glitter.

“Another time, she asked me to vacuum,” Shackel said. Her boss allegedly told her to vacuum her apartment because she was having a visitor. Shackel commented, “By the way, it was no problem, but these, like, ‘maid tasks,’ were not my job. Okay, mind you, before that, I was going to Jeffree Star Studios and sitting on set, helping.”
Although she mentioned Jeffree Star, Shackel clarified that he was not the boss in her story. She said about Star, “I love him.” Disclaimer aside, Shackel continued, stating that when she got to her boss’s apartment, all she had was a handheld Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner.
“I’m on my hands and knees, vacuuming her floor with a handheld dust devil thing,” Shackel alleged. Another time, she had to come over to her boss’s apartment to assemble furniture. As she threw her Starbucks drink in the trash can, her boss allegedly took a picture of the cup and told her that she should have taken the initiative to throw her boss’s trash as well.
“And when I didn’t clean all of her, like, personal makeup brushes, she also sent me photos of all the brushes lying around in her apartment that I could have cleaned,” Shackel claimed. Aside from being assigned tasks outside her job description, Shackel alleged that she was invited to a trip, which she had to pay for out of pocket. During the trip, she alleged that her boss left her out of a dinner party and ignored her texts until the next day.
Blocking her from a golden opportunity
“I think the worst one of all was the fact that she worked for Morphe, technically, and so I worked for Morphe. They paid me, and they had a big holiday party,” Shackel said. She was eager to attend the party, but her boss held the invites. Staff, presumably from Morphe, told her that they would make sure her boss gave her the invite.
“It’s a total dream to be able to go to that. My favorite influencers went. It was like a whole big thing,” she said. Shackel said she kept texting her boss for the invite, and her boss kept replying that she would eventually send it. The night before the event, Shackel said her boss told her she wouldn’t be going, and consequently, Shackel wouldn’t either. Although she thought she was invited separately, Shackel didn’t get to speak up for herself. She felt crushed for missing the opportunity. But to make matters worse, she said her boss ended up attending the party.
“She was there with her, with all of our little group of friends that we would, like, work with,” Shackel alleged. She saw photos of her boss posing at the photo booth and taking pictures with her favorite influencers. “It was at that point I knew I was gonna quit, because I realized I was getting bullied,” Shackel stated. But the phenomenon isn’t reserved for YouTube influencers. Some bosses couldn’t stand promising new hires. After getting picked on at work, this woman’s solution was to say goodbye to corporate America and flee to Belgium.
