She watched her partner turn religious because of a podcast. Their relationship didn’t survive after one flat tire

Holly Kurtz (@holllykurtz) from Nashville watched her boyfriend become religious. Although she had her own qualms, Kurtz claimed that she supported him through the transition. Despite it all, it still ended over a flat tire.
“I grew up in church, so I understand the dynamic of a man in the church. I understand how the church works, I have a lot of context,” Kurtz told TikTok. Although she didn’t specify which church her boyfriend joined, the story suggests he was exploring Christianity.
“I started to notice when he started listening to this podcast, and for whatever reason, everything kind of started,” Kurtz added. She didn’t disclose which podcast it was, but observed that the men in it greatly influenced him. At the time, Kurtz said she didn’t have a problem with it, but her boyfriend started to change. She checked his social media activity and said she didn’t like what was on his For You page.
“And then he started talking in a different kind of language,” Kurtz alleged. It’s not like he woke up and started speaking languages he didn’t learn in school, like this woman, who started miraculously speaking Spanish. Kurtz explained that her boyfriend started using religious language, which she said made him more closed-minded. When she first met him, Kurtz said her boyfriend had an expansive mindset, which she loved. She grew up in a church, while her boyfriend didn’t, and she claimed that he even helped her deconstruct some of her Christian beliefs.
“And so, I watched him kind of become more closed, and more judgemental, and more willing to put guilt and shame on someone because of a moral standard that he held now,” she alleged. Her boyfriend suggested that he wanted to go to church. Although Kurtz wasn’t interested, she wanted to support him as he explored his spirituality.
It wasn’t religion that made her break up with her boyfriend
Kurtz said he went to church for the first time on Father’s Day. Because she was with her family, her boyfriend went to church with a friend. When he returned, Kurtz alleged that her boyfriend told her he needed a “godly woman to serve him while he serves the Lord.” After that, Kurtz said things got even weirder in their relationship.
“I understood in that moment that he was assigning me a role that I was not willing to play. I will not be the servant of the man that I’m with because the man is closer to ‘God.’ That is, I’m not interested in that,” she stated. However, Kurtz alleged that her boyfriend’s newfound faith became the standard for everything in their relationship. Things they’d always done in their relationship, which Kurtz didn’t specify, were suddenly labeled ‘bad.’ But the increasing religiosity wasn’t what made her break up with her boyfriend. Kurtz said the nail in the coffin was a flat tire.
“It was 10 p.m., I was on the side of the road by myself, and I asked him for help, and he said no,” Kurtz alleged. She claimed her boyfriend didn’t apologize and said he wouldn’t change the flat tire because he wasn’t willing to get out of bed. Kurtz pointed out that while her boyfriend wanted a ‘godly woman’ to serve him, he was unwilling to help his partner, which led to the demise of their relationship. Changing a tire seems as simple as cooking breakfast for a partner, and yet this woman’s husband failed to cook for her when it was his turn to run the kitchen.
