‘Genuine fear for my safety’: Woman warns the cabin about her life-threatening allergy. Then one passenger has a horrible idea and it doesn’t end well

Chloë says a fellow passenger repeatedly talked about eating peanuts around her despite an allergy warning, leaving her on edge throughout the flight.

A woman with a severe nut allergy says a request for fellow airline passengers to avoid nuts took an uncomfortable turn when one man decided to make her allergy a topic of conversation. He may have gone without peanuts for the flight, but that didn’t stop him from repeatedly talking about eating them around her.

TikTok content creator Chloë shared that passengers had been asked not to open or eat anything containing nuts to help keep her safe. Flying with a severe allergy was already frightening for her, she explained, without having to worry about another passenger deliberately making the situation more stressful.

According to Chloë, the man first commented on her allergy at the beginning of the flight. He then allegedly continued making remarks throughout the journey about eating peanuts around her while speaking with two other passengers nearby. Chloë said the behavior left her feeling “incredibly uncomfortable and on edge for the whole flight.” Apparently, the mere thought of going without peanuts was enough to drive him nuts.

She says the comments didn’t stop there

The remarks apparently went beyond discussing what the passenger wanted to eat. Chloë said she was also told that she should not fly or go on holiday because of her allergy, effectively turning her medical condition into an inconvenience she was expected to accommodate.

“What makes it even more upsetting is being told that I shouldn’t fly or go on holiday because of my allergy,” she wrote in her TikTok caption. “I shouldn’t have to stop living my life because other people don’t understand how serious an allergy can be.”

Flying with a severe allergy is terrifying enough without having to worry about the people around you making it worse. The man who commented on my allergy at the start of the flight then proceeded to make comments throughout the entire journey about eating peanuts around me, along with two other people nearby. I felt incredibly uncomfortable and on edge for the whole flight. What makes it even more upsetting is being told that I shouldn’t fly or go on holiday because of my allergy. I shouldn’t have to stop living my life because other people don’t understand how serious an allergy can be. I’m not asking everyone to understand exactly what it feels like — just to have some compassion and respect for the fact that, for me, this is a genuine fear for my safety. ? #allergyawareness #foryoupage❤️❤️ #flying #fyp #allergy

Chloë said she didn’t expect everyone on board to understand exactly what living with her allergy was like. Instead, she wanted other passengers to show some compassion and respect for what she described as a genuine concern for her safety.

On a different occasion, another passenger with a severe peanut allergy recently shared how a flight crew’s simple announcement helped her feel safer aboard a British Airways flight. The accommodation meant so much to her; she became emotional after hearing it.

Chloë’s post clearly struck a nerve, receiving more than 268,000 likes and over 8,600 comments, many of which questioned why temporarily giving up a particular snack had become such a contentious request.

Passengers debate going nut-free for a flight

“I don’t understand how people find not being able to eat nuts for a few hours such an inconvenience lol,” one commenter wrote. Another suspected the man “probably had zero intention of eating anything containing nuts before this.”

One traveler offered a simple insight from a personal experience. They said they had brought peanut M&M’s onto a recent flight, heard an announcement asking passengers to avoid nuts, and simply kept the candy in their bag until reaching their destination. “It’s really not a big sacrifice,” they wrote.

Then again, not every passenger gets the warning before opening their snack. One woman previously found herself in an awkward position after eating a peanut-butter Uncrustables before an allergy announcement, leaving her worried about what she had unknowingly done.

The reaction wasn’t unanimously compassionate, though. Some commenters insisted that nut allergies aren’t airborne, while others argued that paying for a flight meant they should be able to eat whatever they wanted. Chloë hadn’t explained exactly what could trigger her allergy, leaving the comment section to debate the medical risks of a condition they knew very little about. Apparently, the prospect of going a few hours without peanuts was enough to turn everyone into an allergy expert.

Still, the request itself was temporary: passengers were being asked to avoid nuts during a flight. For Chloë, though, the stakes felt higher than waiting a few hours for a particular snack. As one commenter put it, turning another person’s dangerous allergy to a personal inconvenience is “wild.”
