#RogueOneWish: Dying Fan Receives Wish to Watch Rogue One Ahead of Release

As if we needed more of a reason to fall in love with Mark Hamill.

You may or may not remember the #ForceForDaniel campaign that successfully got terminally ill Star Wars fan Daniel Fleetwood his own private screening of The Force Awakens well ahead of its release date. Since then, Fleetwood has sadly passed away, but his memory surely isn’t forgotten. Now, ahead of Rogue One‘s release, another campaign has taken root, also earning a mark (heh) of approval from Hamill himself.

Hamill recently retweeted a Metro UK story about Neil Hanvey, who apparently only has six to eight months to live—and that was back in April. Knowing this, Andrea Hanvey (Hanvey’s wife) and Amy Duncan (healthcare assistant at St. Michael’s Hospice, where Hanvey is being cared for) banded together to start #RogueOneWish, a fan campaign to get Hanvey his own screening of Rogue One.

Many of other folks have also come out in support of Hanvey, including Paul Davis, the mountain bike manager for the 2016 Olympic Games, who tweeted the below video trying to increase visibility for the campaign.

MakingStarWars.com has also shared an incredibly touching open letter with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

In the week since the campaign’s launched, apparently Hanvey got his wish, as St. Michael’s Hospice posted an update to their Facebook page saying Rogue One director Gareth Edwards had been by and helped make this past Saturday special for the family and everyone at St. Michael’s.

We’re super stoked that Hanvey got his wish, and that so many people turned out in support of #RogueOneWish.
