A-Force #5 A-Force #5 w: Kelly Thompson a: Ben Caldwell p: Marvel Comics A new A-Force story-line is starting up, now that Antimatter's been defeated. She-Hulk, Captain Marvel and the gang face off against a dragon in this issue. Sounds pretty straightforward, but that's no ordinary dragon. Black Panther #2 Black Panther #2 w: Ta-Nehisi Coates a: Brian Stelfreeze p: Marvel Comics The next chapter of the already-bestselling new Black Panther series arrives this week! This grim new story introduces political unrest and citizen revolt into the world of Wakanda, and inspires T'Challa to interrogate his own right to rule. If you somehow missed the first issue, go back and pick it up, and then grab this one as well! Captain America: Sam Wilson #9 Captain America: Sam Wilson #9 w: Nick Spencer a: Angel Unzueta p: Marvel Comics The Standoff crossover has finally begun to wrap up, and since Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers just worked together during that arc—and since Steve has picked back up the Captain America shield—Sam Wilson has to take time to navigate the fact that there are two Captain Americas now. Plus, the series gears up for yet another crossover arc with the Civil War story-lines. Gwenpool #0 Gwenpool #0 w: Christopher Hastings a: Danilo Beyruth, Gurihiru p: Marvel Comics If you liked the initial adventures of Gwenpool #1, and you want a little recap on her origins as a dimension-hopping fangirl, Gwenpool #0 is here to get you on track. Or off track, since it's Gwenpool, which means murderous goofy nonsense. Poe Dameron #2 Poe Dameron #2 w: Charles Soule a: Phil Noto p: Marvel Comics Poe was caught in a bit of a pickle at the end of the last issue, finding out that the underground city is actually heavily guarded by the First Order. Read this next bit in that traditional radio announcer voice (you know the one): How will he escape his current predicament?! Tune in this issue to find out! Also, I found myself pleasantly surprised by the BB-8 comic at the end of the first issue. It's super adorable, and I would love to see more, just saying. Punisher #1 Punisher #1 w: Becky Cloonan a: Steve Dillon p: Marvel Comics Frank Castle, aka The Punisher has come back to the forefront of the Marvel Universe thanks to Netflix's Daredevil . Now, he has his own solo title again! Even better, Punisher is now the only male Marvel hero being written by a woman - Becky Cloonan, who pretty much rules everything she touches. Check this out! Scarlet #8 Scarlet #8 w: Brian Michael Bendis a: Alex Maleev p: Marvel Comics After a way-too-long hiatus, Scarlet is back! This inspiring, female-led tale of revolution and speaking truth to power is a title that should be on your must-read list. In this issue, Scarlet has taken the Portland city hall hostage with the entire country's eyes on her. Will her demands be met? Spider-Gwen #8 Spider-Gwen #8 w: Jason Latour a: Bengal p: Marvel Comics This issue of Spider-Gwen features a team up between Cindy Moon (aka Silk) and Spider-Gwen in the old tried-and-true plot centering on an evil version of Silk who makes her way into Moon's dimension to mess with the good Silk's life. Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the Eighth Grade Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the Eighth Grade (New Edition) TP w: Landry Walker a: Eric Jones p: DC Comics This adorable limited series first came out in 2009, and it's now back in print in an all-new edition trade paperback! Wanna know how Kara Zor-El got down as Supergirl in junior high? Check out this book, and share it with the young superhero fans in your life! The Wicked + The Divine #19 The Wicked + The Divine #19 w: Kieron Gillen a: Jamie McKelvie p: Image Comics Last issue brought fan favorite character Laura/Persephone back from the dead in a fully badass sequence where she rips what remains of the Pantheon a new one. Now, find out more about the whys and wherefores behind her return, as well as just what the hell is going on with the Pantheon. [View All on One Page ]
It’s Wednesday, which means … NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! What are you planning to pick up today? If you’re at a loss, let us be your guide. Welcome to Pull Wisely, in which yours truly, Teresa Jusino, and Jessica Lachenal choose ten comics that we plan to pick up today.
This week’s top ten list is super heavy on Marvel Comics, with many of our favorite super-heroic heavy-hitters making an appearance. We’ve got the second issue of the much-loved new Black Panther series out this week, plus some Gwen-ventures with Spider-Gwen and Gwenpool . Meanwhile, the Punisher kicks off with a new #1 issue, thanks to Netflix’s Daredevil series shoving him back into the limelight.
In non-Marvel picks, we’ve got The Wicked + The Divine , Image Comics’ music-meets-mythology mash-up. Batting for DC Comics, we’ve got Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the Eighth Grade , a throwback to Kara’s adventures in junior high (and also an IRL throwback, since this series first came out in 2009). Other than those two, though, it’s all Marvel back-to-back.
What’d we miss? Let us know!
