Welcome to Pull It Together, where the goal is to narrow the massive field of comic book titles to the ones you shouldn’t overlook. It isn’t about what’s on my pull list; it’s about what could be on yours!
This is a good week for comics! Brand new one shots from Ms. Marvel and Red Sonja, first issues from Lady Killer, Silk, and Sparks Nevada, Storm gets its first trade release, and Bitch Planet is telling us all about its biggest character.
Oh, you say that
She-Hulk‘s final issue is out this week?
There's no cross domain hackery or tracking voodoo, it's just some sweet jQuery animations.
Please, think of the animations.
In the meantime, enjoy the html version below. I guess. If that's your thing.
Bitch Planet #3
'Too Big to Fail' reveals the specific events leading to zaftig Penny Rolle's incarceration. Robert Wilson IV (Knuckleheads ) joins Kelly Sue DeConnick (Pretty Deadly , Captain Marvel ) on art duties for this flashback issue.
Bitch Planet #3 arrives with the series' first honest-to-god flashback issue, giving us what everybody wants: some insight into the incredible Penny Rolle.
Lady Killer #1 (2nd Printing)
Josie Schuller is a picture-perfect homemaker, wife, and mother-but she's also a ruthless, efficient killer for hire! A brand-new original comedy series that combines the wholesome imagery of early 1960s domestic bliss with a tightening web of murder, paranoia, and cold-blooded survival.
Did you miss Lady Killer #1 the first time around? Well, its second printing hits shelves today.
Ms. Marvel #12
Love is in Jersey City as Valentine's Day arrives! Kamala Khan may not be allowed to go to the dance, but Ms. Marvel is! Well sort of - by crashing it attempting to capture Asgard's most annoying trickster! Yup, it's a special Valentine's Day issue featuring Marvel's favorite charlatan, Loki!
Ms. Marvel and Valentines Day. Loki at a high school dance. I don't think there's anything more I can add to this.
Red Sonja #100
Who knows how to celebrate ten years of Dynamite publishing better than the She-Devil with a Sword herself, Red Sonja? And she's invited some serious barbarian bards to help! Past and present Sonja scribes Gail Simone (current monthly writer), Luke Lieberman (the man behind Queen Sonja), Mike Oeming (the first scribe of Red Sonja's tenure at Dynamite), Eric Trautmann (who swept Sonja across the many Hyborian kingdoms), and Roy Thomas (the man who started it all) pair up with beloved artists for this phenomenal five-story, supersized anthology, celebrating Red Sonja and her many roles and sojourns throughout the Hyborian Age!
I don't usually wind up enjoying the
Red Sonja one-shots that make it into my box thanks to my subscription to the main title, but this one at least has Gail Simone on partial writing duties. I may just give it a chance.
Final issue! The end of the Blue File...and the end of an era! But when one door closes, another one opens, and Jen finds herself face to face with her most important case yet.
Weep for the end of She-Hulk... but also maybe an intro to the A-Force, the all-female Avengers team?
Cindy Moon exploded out of her bunker and into the Marvel Universe when we first learned that she had been bitten by that same radioactive spider in the first arc of Amazing Spider-Man. She then went on to save Peter Parker's life (more than once!) and traverse the Spider-verse alongside Spider-Woman. Now, as Silk, Cindy is on her own in New York City, searching for her past, defining her own future, and webbing up wrong-doers along the way! Robbie Thompson (writer from TV's Supernatural) fills this new ongoing series with his unique blend of antics and feels. Featuring stunning covers by Eisner Award winner Dave Johnson and interiors by future superstar Stacey Lee.
Silk is the latest in a whole batch of Marvel's new lady-led series, and we couldn't be more happy to see her.
Sparks Nevada Marshal on Mars #1 (of 4)
Based on the hit Nerdist podcast! Shine your astro spurs and don your robot fists! Justice rides a rocket steed across the crimson plains of the fourth planet, where one man brings fear to robots and aliens...and hope to humans who make this frontier planet their home. He is... Sparks Nevada: Marshal on Mars !
If you listen to The Thrilling Adventure Hour, you know exactly what this is. If not, imagine if a certain confident space captain and his emotionally subdued second in command were lawmen on the red plains of the fourth planet. Or try imagining what the Lone Ranger would be like if he fought robot outlaws, lizardmen, and strange space entities. And if his native sidekick wearily kept trying to correct his pronunciation of the planet's name.
So it's a bit like that, and with a lot of heart.
Storm Vol. 1
Thief. Goddess. Headmistress. Queen. The X-Man called Storm has always defied a single title. And her desire to better the world has never been limited to only her own kind. On an ongoing mission to foster goodwill, and safeguard both mankind and mutants, Ororo Munroe will travel the globe - confronting villains, gods, monsters and everything in between. She will overthrow tyrants, quell tsunamis and strive to see her dream for the world realized. She is Storm, a hero like no other - and the skies will tremble at the sight of their namesake. But now, Storm must handle the fallout caused by familiar faces from her past. Why is Callisto kidnapping wayward youths from the streets of New York? Will Storm's romance with Forge be reignited? And can Yukio help Storm deal with the death of Wolverine?
The first five issues of
Storm are now available in handy paperback format. A great way to show support for the series!
Umbral Vol. 2
The paranoid dark fantasy continues! Rascal has escaped the city-and the clutches of the terrible Umbral shadow-creatures, disguised as humans! But danger also haunts the dark mist of the Bulaswode, and as betrayal prepares to stab her in the back, Rascal must choose whether to trust her friends...or an Umbral! Master worldbuilders Antony Johnston (The Fuse , Wasteland ) and Christopher Mitten (Criminal Macabre , Wasteland ) bring you a dark fantasy unlike anything you've seen before!
Umbral #7-12 are collected in the series second paperback edition.
