‘Professor T’ season 5 potential release window, cast, plot, and more

Ben Miller as Professor Tempest in the British remake of 'Profesor T'

Before Professor T season 4 has even premiered in the U.K. or the U.S., ITV has already renewed the show for season 5. In this age of early, sudden cancelations and cliffhanger endings, this is genuinely exciting and comforting news.

So, let’s dive in, shall we? How much has already been revealed about season 5 of the British Professor T remake?

Unfortunately, not much. Season 4 has yet to air, after all. But ITV has released a few details!

Professor T season 5 potential release window

Given the circumstances, we are far off from knowing an official release date for Professor T season 5. However, if we look back at the release pattern of the show’s previous seasons, it’s possible to pinpoint a potential release window. Season 4 is set to air later this year—we think it will premiere somewhere in September or October. Season 3 premiered in March 2024, season 2 in September 2022, and season 1 in June 2021. Each season takes roughly a year and a half to air on the small screen. As such, we’d expect season 5 to premiere somewhere in late 2026 or, at the latest, early 2027.

Professor T season 5 cast

ITV has confirmed that, alongside Ben Miller’s return as the titular Professor Jasper Tempest, the following actors will also join Professor T season 5:

  • Frances de la Tour as Adelaide Tempest, the Professor’s mother
  • Zoe Wanamaker as Zelda Radclyffe, the Professor’s aunt
  • Juliet Stevenson as psychologist Dr. Helena Goldberg
  • Barney White as Detective Dan Winters
  • Sunetra Sarker as DCI Maiya Goswami
  • Rhian Blundell as Detective Chloe Highsmith

In response to the season 5 renewal, Ben Miller told ITV that he was “beyond thrilled that we will soon be breaking ground on a fifth series of Professor T.” He continued:

“Working with such a talented cast and crew is a joy that even a heavy woolen suit can’t stifle, and I can’t wait for audiences to see the treats we’ve got in store for them in series 4 later this year, when the Professor tackles his most baffling case yet: romance. The fact that audiences worldwide have embraced the show so warmly is hugely rewarding, and we’re already brimming with ideas to make series 5 even more quirky, heartfelt, and surprising. Here’s to another season of baffling crime, dreaming spires, and ironing that tweed…”

Professor T season 5 plot details

Despite the impending release of Professor T season 4, ITV has revealed a tease of what’s to come in season 5. Professor T’s fifth outing will once again consist of six episodes and will feature “unexpected new relationships and more complex crimes,” including a “boxing match that takes a bloody turn and a series of inexplicable sudden deaths at an upmarket spa.”

According to the British network, the stakes for Professor Tempest and his colleagues have “never been higher,” and given what happened at the end of season 3 with DS Lisa Donckers, that’s saying something.

Previous seasons of Professor T are now available to stream on ITVX in the U.K. and through PBS, Prime Video, and Apple TV+ in the U.S.
