Dear Iron Man 3 Execs, Please Put Pepper Potts In An Iron Man Suit

Almost Totally Excellent

This year’s San Diego Comic-Con was pretty exciting for Marvel fans — not only were five films announced, Robert Downey, Jr. made a surprise appearance, and we got to see the Tony Stark’s new suits for the upcoming Iron Man 3. What more could a Marvel fan possibly want? Well, after Iron Man and Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau mentioned that the idea of suiting Pepper Potts up in her very own powered armor ensemble, the answer is that. We want that, Iron Man 3 executives.

During the Iron Man 3 panel, Favreau revealed that the possibility of Pepper getting her own suit has been kicked around more than once by the production team: “We almost did it a few times; we talked about it a lot. I think we all share your enthusiasm for that, and we all want to see Gwyneth kick a little ass,” he said.

Marvel Studies director Kevin Feige whole-heartedly agreed: “Everyone at this table thinks it would be the coolest thing in the world to see Pepper get in the suit at some point,” he said. However, despite what seems to be across-the-board approval of Pepper suiting up, no one on the panel confirmed or denied that it would happen.

There’s actually canonical support for having Pepper Potts get her own powered armor suit — it happens in The Invincible Iron Man #14, courtesy of writer Kelly Sue DeConnick. “She doesn’t have to be support staff anymore, not a plot device, not tied to the train tracks, not doing her part to make exposition less obvious. She’s stepping into position not only as a heroine, but as a protagonist,” said DeConnick of the introduction of Rescue, Pepper’s suited-up superhero identity.

So, considering there is ample Iron Man 3 staff support for this (although Favreau is handing the director’s chair to Shane Black. Don’t worry, he will still be reprising his role as Happy Hogan) and textual support for it and it’s pretty obvious that Gwyneth Paltrow would be absolutely amazing as an armored Pepper Potts, we can only ask one thing: What are you guys waiting for?!
