Orlando Retail Store Employee Encounters Customer Trying to Purchase Merchandise With Taco Bell Gift Card. Then She Asks for the Manager
(Not) Saved by the Bell

People who work in stores encounter all kinds of people. Some are very sweet, and you wish there were more like them, while others are not so much. Then there are the ones you have awkward or weird interactions with, which can lead to laughs that last for days and become dinner-table conversation for years to come.
On December 4, 2020, TikTok user @missharmonyb uploaded a video where she talked about encountering a customer who wanted to buy items from the retail store she works in using a Taco Bell gift card, believing it is accepted everywhere.
@missharmonyb narrates story of a weird customer encounter
As someone with experience in customer service and sales, I know that you regularly encounter a wide variety of people. While my business was mostly over the phone, I imagine it would be ten times more challenging if it happened face-to-face.
A TikTok video posted by user @missharmonyb on December 4, 2020, has recently gained a lot of attention on the platform. I think this is mainly because of how absurd it is. In the video, @missharmonyb explains that she was working at her retail job when a woman shopping in the store attempted to pay for her items, worth over 300 dollars, with a gift card. When the card was declined, the woman looked surprised and then got defensive, claiming she had put money on the card yesterday.
@missharmonyb asked the woman to give her the card, explaining that sometimes the machine fails to read the chip. When she examined the card, she told the woman that it was a Taco Bell gift card. The woman became defensive again and, although she confirmed it was from Taco Bell, her words made it seem like she thought she could use the card to buy things outside Taco Bell, which wasn’t true. When @missharmonyb insisted it was not the case, the woman argued and caused a scene, accusing @missharmonyb of discriminating against her for refusing to accept her gift card. Eventually, when she wasn’t convinced, the woman demanded that @missharmonyb call her manager, but she refused.
TikTokers have reacted strongly to @missharmonyb’s story
As of this writing, @missharmonyb’s video has more than 192,000 likes, and in the comments section of the post, people are, well, talking. Many find the situation extremely funny and have commented accordingly. User @steph_ny_law wrote, “Omfg I’m thrown.” User @brclothwrites wrote, “Trump logic.”
Others commented on how ridiculous the situation was. User @lee_boltnzoom wrote, “did…did she think all gift cards are just visa gift cards?!?!” User @abbywrong wrote, “did she think you could just buy a gift card somewhere and then use it… anywhere???”
How much money can be put in Taco Bell gift cards?
Taco Bell gift cards are very popular. You can purchase them for personal use or as gifts for family, friends, or others. That said, there are specific limits to using Taco Bell gift cards. According to Taco Bell’s official website, the minimum order value for eGift Cards is $ 10, while the minimum for physical Gift Cards is $ 15. For physical Gift Card orders under $ 15, customers can visit a participating Taco Bell location that requires a minimum purchase of $5. The maximum order on the Taco Bell website is 10 eGift Cards or physical cards, each up to 100 dollars. For larger orders, customers can visit Taco Bell’s bulk/corporate ordering site and create an account.
