NYC woman goes to Danny & Coop’s Cheesesteaks, finds something in her meal. Then says staff called her a liar and told her to ‘post about it’
Danny & Coop’s Cheesesteaks has become one of New York City’s best-known spots for Philadelphia-style cheesesteaks, drawing long lines and social media attention since opening. Diners often visit expecting generously filled sandwiches and a restaurant that lives up to its growing reputation. But one recent visit has people talking for a very different reason.
That is why one TikTok video posted by @teressab_ has drawn attention online. A customer says she found something unexpected in her meal while visiting Danny & Coop’s Cheesesteaks, but claims the conversation that followed with staff ended up leaving a bigger impression than what she discovered in the food.
Rather than focusing on the meal itself, viewers have largely centred their reactions on how businesses respond when customers raise concerns. The discussion quickly shifted from food quality to customer service, with many saying the way a complaint is handled can matter just as much as the complaint itself.
She says she never expected the conversation to go this way
The creator says Danny & Coop’s Cheesesteaks had been on her list of places to try while visiting New York. She says the food initially looked good until she noticed a hair in her order.
Instead of drawing attention in the busy restaurant, she says she quietly approached the employee at the register. “I whispered it to him, cause I’m not trying to tear anyone down,” she says in the video.
She says the employee then called two men from the back of the restaurant. She says she expected a manager to apologize or help resolve the situation. Instead, she claims one of the men immediately accused her of making up the complaint. “He tells me I’m lying,” she says.
The creator says the employee then suggested she planned to post a video online to make the restaurant “go viral” and hurt its business. “So let me guess what you wanna do. You gonna post this video about your hair for us to go viral and then we go out of business?” she recalls him saying.
She says she responded that she only wanted a refund because she no longer felt comfortable eating the meal. “I’m literally come in to get my refund because once I find hair in my food, I’m not eating at your place,” she says.
The creator further claims the employee dismissed the complaint by saying the restaurant sells “60,000 sandwich a week” and that “whatever happens, it don’t even matter anyway.” She also alleges that he encouraged her to share the experience publicly.
Other restaurant complaints have also gained attention online. One customer claimed he found what appeared to be a maggot at Cicis Pizza and alleged staff questioned his complaint. In another case, a Fire Island, New York, server allegedly followed a group outside over a tip, sparking discussion about customer service.
Many commenters said mistakes happen, but how staff respond matters. “Wow omg, just apologize and offer a refund. Businesses be crazy now,” one viewer wrote. Another commented, “why not offer to redo ur order and apologize, smh.”
One person shared a similar experience at another restaurant, writing, “I found hair fried into my calamari at a restaurant. The chef came out to personal apologize and said the rest of the meal was on him. It’s not that hard to rectify. Mistakes happen.”
Several viewers said the alleged interaction would discourage them from visiting the restaurant. “I went there a couple years ago, it was good, but after seeing this vid and how they treated you, I probably won’t go back, EVER,” one commenter wrote.
Others questioned whether the hair was clearly visible in the video. “I’m still looking for the hair. but i believe u sis!!” one viewer said, while another simply commented, “I don’t see the hair.”
Danny & Coop’s Cheesesteaks has not publicly responded to the allegations. The creator’s claims have not been independently verified.
