New York Woman Went on a Hike With a Date She Met Online. People Thought It Was Going to Be a Horror Story ‘Cut and Run if You Wanna’
First dates usually happen in crowded places so two strangers can get to know each other safely. But Maddie (@regularmaddie) agreed to go hiking with a man she’d just met a day ago on Hinge. What could have been a horror story took an unexpected turn.
While she was living in Los Angeles, Maddie said that she matched with the man who was only a couple of blocks away from her. Then, they agreed to go on a hike the next day.
“Don’t know if it’s the best idea to go for a hike on a first date, but anyway, we do,” Maddie said. During the hike, Maddie said that the man had been sweet with her dog and had been easy to get along with. They got to know each other better, and the conversations were easy.
That wouldn’t be their last date. Maddie told him that she had plans to go on a road trip with her dog to visit her best friend, whom she’s meeting 700 miles into the woods. The man knew the location and started suggesting places to visit while they were there. But in a twist, Maddie invited him to come along the trip.
At this point, they had only known each other for two days, and she was about to go hiking with him again. Moreover, Maddie would be introducing him to her best friend. Things were moving fast, but they proceeded with the date. Instead of driving the car herself, the man took the wheel and drove to see her friend.
“She loves him. We have an amazing time,” Maddie stated. But it wasn’t one-sided either. The man thought they had great rapport and wanted to keep seeing her.

At this point, the man disclosed that he wasn’t dating anyone else but Maddie. They spent the next few weeks getting to know each other better, and Maddie was falling. Eventually, she brought up the topic of having kids to him.
Although it seemed like they were going steady, the man told her to give him more time to think. But before more could happen, he informed her that he was going to Northern California for work. Maddie may have survived a date in the woods, but was this situationship destined to fizzle out?
Instead of leaving her behind, the man asked Maddie if she’d want to move with him there for a few months. She agreed, and by the time their leases were about to expire, Maddie was thinking about moving back to New York with her mother.
She asked him if he’d want to move with her and her mom, and he followed along. They all moved into an apartment together. But a few months later, tragedy would strike, as Maddie’s mother would be diagnosed with a degenerative muscle disease.
“You can cut and run if you wanna. This is the time,” she told the man. They were months into a promising relationship, but Maddie wanted to care for her mother. She was giving him a way out. Instead, he looked her dead in the face and refused.
“I’m not going anywhere,” he told her. Now they now have two children together.
Maddie’s story went viral on social media, with many surprised at how one Hinge match spiraled into something more. Some commenters were initially worried when she mentioned going on a hike, fully expecting that Maddie would reveal that she matched with a convict.
Others were gushing at how perfect the story seems to be.
One commenter joked, “These Hinge ads are insane.” Finding love online is hard, and Maddie’s story shows that it isn’t impossible. It’s just that the singles out there will just have to comb through several horror stories on Hinge before meeting the one.
