We are very excited to announce today that ReedPOP, the folks behind New York Comic Con and several other fan conventions, have asked us for help with their harassment policy. We’d like to take it one step further and ask for YOUR input as well.
NYCC is taking place October 9-12 this year and ReedPOP reached out to us to start discussing how they can make the best harassment policy possible. You can imagine how thrilled we were considering some recent reactions to asking for improved policies just this year.
The organizers want to set a standard for keeping everyone safe at conventions and plans on rolling this out as their official policy on all ReedPOP shows globally. ReedPOP already has a policy listed on their site but they, and we, know we can always do better, so we’re asking the wider geeky community for help. We’re putting together a panel to work out what needs to go in the policy, and we’re looking for suggestions from our readers as to who should be on it.
We need, at the very least, a name. Though any other contact information (Twitter handle, e-mail address, etc.) would be appreciated, it is not required. We’ll announce the panelists on Monday, 8/25 and work from there, so please get your submissions in by 9pm EST this Sunday, 8/24. The Mary Sue staff—Jill Pantozzi, Susana Polo, Rebecca Pahle, Victoria McNally, Dan Van Winkle, Carolyn Cox, Sam Maggs, Becky Chambers—will already be providing our input. We’d also like to kick things off on this post by asking you to leave your own suggestions as to what should be included in the policy. While our panelists and ReedPOP will be the ones to finalize the policy, we know a lot of you will probably have great suggestions and we want everyone to have a voice.
