A woman has been completely blindsided by her wedding venue that she booked two years in advance. That’s because they called and let her know that they accidentally double-booked her wedding day.

TikToker Stephany (@stephasaurex) got a call right after making a final payment for her venue. Because of a booking issue, she’s going to have to look for a new venue only two months away from her original wedding date, something she agonized over in a TikTok video that has over 113,000 views.

How did this mistake happen?

Stephany had booked her wedding well in advance for April 24. Everything was final until she made a final payment for the venue, as only a few hours later, she got the news that no bride wants to hear.

“I  get a call a few hours later from their accounting team… The accounting person says, ‘Look, we don’t have a date set for you,’” Stephany recalled.

According to her, the venue owners left her date open after she tried to move up her wedding, something that she eventually decided against. She had only tried to change her wedding date because she was undergoing cancer treatments and needed something sooner, but, because of the venue’s policies, she kept her original date in place due to their internal policies.

“ At the time, they told me that we wouldn’t be able to do it unless we paid off our balance in full, which I understand and also start a new contract with a new deposit,” Stephany said.  ”I did call the owner back that same day and I was like, ‘Look, we’re just gonna stick to our original date. We’re gonna try and make it work right now.’”

That’s how the mistake ended up happening, which Stephany said the owner was incredibly apologetic about. But that didn’t change the fact that she was now out of a venue.

Why did she lose her wedding venue and not the other bride?

Commenters had many questions. For one, Stephany seemingly booked her venue well in advance, something that many viewers thought gave her the unilateral right to the venue.

But, according to Stephany, the venue may prefer the other bride because she had a larger wedding party.

In the comments of her original video, she mentioned that “they didn’t directly say that I’m the bride that had to cancel, but my guess is that the other bride has a larger package or party… For this reason, they gave me the option to move my date, cancel my contract, or have a micro wedding at the venue instead.”

In an update video, Stephany clarified that the wedding venue only gave her those three choices. She could either cancel the contract, move up the date, or have a micro wedding. But Stephany didn’t really want to pick any of them. She had already sent invitations. Her family members booked flights that they couldn’t cancel easily. They also couldn’t downsize the party, which had 75 people in it.

What did she end up doing with the wedding venue?

The only option she felt she could pick was to cancel, considering those factors. Stephany clarified that “I am exploring to see what options I have, but I really think they chose the other bride because she probably paid more. Their prices two years ago were drastically different.” So, the venue essentially pushed her out of her date.

Commenters expressed their dismay with the decision. They recommended seeking a lawyer or reading over her contract to see if it was even justified. But others said it simply wasn’t right.

“As someone in the wedding industry, who has worked for venues, this is not right,” one commenter added. “To cancel your wedding and not the offer reflects worse of them than the other couple leaving a bad review, which could be preventable if offerings of upgrades, a new date and stationary credit for new save the dates were properly offered. So many other things could of happened to prevent this I’m so sorry they did you so dirty.”
