McDonald’s customer finishes her drink and realizes what is resting at the bottom of the cup: ‘Literally, it was in someone’s ear’

She's not loving it.

Nobody enjoys finding an object in their food or drink that doesn’t belong there, but that’s what happened to Jo (@jordynboldin on TikTok) when she made a recent trip to McDonald’s for a Diet Coke.

Jo drank her entire soda before noticing that there was an earring sitting at the bottom of the cup. Since the earring must have been in the ear of somebody before landing in her drink, Jo was understandably disgusted, especially since she had already finished her drink.

Commenters were equally disgusted

With thousands of views on the video, the comment section has come to share their own opinions with Jo. One commenter said, “Typically, it looks like one of those nose things that go over their nose. That’s why food places don’t like jewelry when you work there; that’s the number one reason cuz it gets in the food.”

A second commenter backed up the idea of this being why jewelry shouldn’t be worn in food service, saying, “You’re NOT supposed to wear jewelry in food service. I’d take the cup to whatever location you purchased it (with the earring still in it) and show it to a manager so the right person gets in trouble. Then make a complaint to however many health inspectors you have in your area. Not to be a Karen, but that’s absolutely disgusting, and I’m so sorry that happened to you.”

Somebody else said, “I actually thought it was a centipede omg.” To which Jo replied, “Not sure which would be worse.”

Another commenter brought a bit of humor by saying, “Free gift with purchase.” While a different commenter felt that Jo was too calm about the situation, saying, “I think you’re underreacting.”

Jo isn’t the first customer to end up concerned with their food or drink

Platforms like TikTok make it easy to draw attention to possible health concerns in the food industry, whether that’s from poor practices, accidents, or any other reason. Another customer went into an unnamed restaurant and found that the soda fountain appeared to be a health risk, ready to give customers E.coli.

In a different McDonald’s case, a woman in West Virginia claims that her boyfriend found half of what appeared to be a human tooth in his order of fries.

The lesson is that it’s a good idea to inspect food and drink orders before consuming anything, because it’s not unheard of to find an object that doesn’t belong there.
