Batman and Superman Will Battle Captain America in 2016, Their Movies Just Got the Same Release Date

You can still claim allegiance to DC and Marvel, but only for two more years: as of now, both Captain America 3 and Batman vs Superman are scheduled for a May 6, 2016 release date. Obviously the titular showdown in Snyder’s movie won’t be the contest that audiences are most invested in.

Surprisingly, it seems that Snyder may have fired the first shots. Disney and Marvel had already announced they would be releasing an untitled project on May 6th of that year, so it’s baffling why Warner Bros. would knowingly stack competition against an underdog like Batfleck.

Marvel studios president Kevin Feige announced this week while promoting Winter Soldier that the untitled mystery film will be the third in the Captain America franchise, and that the studio has no plans to move the date. Marvel and Disney have another unspecified film set to open on July 8th of that year, but really, why would they take advantage of that wiggle room? The weekend’s clash of the titans (take that as a compliment, Snyder) is bound to just increase interest in the third Captain America installment.

Obviously post production or shooting delays might ultimately prevent an opening-weekend duel, or Warner Bros. could realize that they’re likely to lose a contest against the critically-acclaimed Captain. However, I’m dubious that Zack Snyder would want to prematurely admit defeat and bump back the release date — so far (to his credit) he’s stuck to his guns on even the most unpopular of decisions.

I for one hope we have a clash of titans to look forward to in two years. Snyder’s movie doesn’t interest me too much, but Batman vs Superman vs Captain America definitely does.
