A Song of Ice and Fire scribe George R.R. Martin had led an interesting life thus far. He grew up in New Jersey, the son of a longshoreman. He read comics growing up (and even wrote into a Marvel letter column in 1964), went on to join the staff of CBS’ Beauty and the Beast series in the 80s, and of course, started his long-running fantasy series which would go on to become a hit TV show on HBO. Hear him talk about…well, most of that plus a lot of other stuff in this interview with Grace Dent. Most importantly, hear how the author imagined one specific scene that occurs near the beginning of Game of Thrones, and started his empire.
