A Song of Ice and Fire scribe George R.R. Martin had led an interesting life thus far. He grew up in New Jersey, the son of a longshoreman. He read comics growing up (and even wrote into a Marvel letter column in 1964), went on to join the staff of CBS’ Beauty and the Beast series in the 80s, and of course, started his long-running fantasy series which would go on to become a hit TV show on HBO.
