One of the biggest unknowns in the lead-up to The Avengers‘ release was whether or not Mark Ruffalo‘s performance as Bruce Banner would fall flat. Of course, now we know Ruffalo’s take on the Hulk was one of the best parts of the movie. OK, maybe I’m biased in favor of Mark Ruffalo (always), but the point still stands that most reviewers, fans, etc. would agree that casting him more than paid off. So that leaves us with a question: When are we going to get a Mark Ruffalo Hulk movie?!

Sadly, not anytime soon. According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, any standalone Hulk film probably won’t happen until after The Avengers 2, which isn’t set to come out until 2015:

Do I think Hulk can carry a movie and be as entertaining as he was in ‘Avengers‘? I do believe that. I do believe he absolutely could. We certainly are not even going to attempt that until ‘Avengers 2. So there’s a lot of time to think about it.

Lest Hulk fans start gnashing their teeth at the prospect of a three-year-plus wait, Feige did provide a few tantalizing tidbits on what a future Hulk movie might be about. (Though that actually might make the gnashing worse…) Asked whether a Planet Hulk storyline was on the table, he remarked: “I don’t think there’s a lot that we couldn’t do someday, as the cinematic universe continues to grow and expand and get as big as the comic book universe… Planet Hulk is a cool story. World War Hulk is a cool story.”

So, that’s your Hulk news of the day. Hopefully we’ll get plenty of Bruce Banner cameos to tide us over until Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Three (movies coming out after 2015) gets underway.

And hey, Feige… while we’re talking about future Marvel movies… any news about Black Widow or Hawkeye?
