Man orders a $30 filet mignon at Texas Roadhouse. Then he realizes it’s the third time they’ve allegedly swapped his meat: ‘Y’all be careful’

The mysterious meat swap.

Steak on a Plate being Cut

Kenneth Card (@kennethcard3) shared a story about his recent visit to Texas Roadhouse, where he ordered a filet mignon. As a former cook who has experience with different cuts of meat and the ability to tell them apart, Card quickly noticed that he was served a sirloin instead of his requested eight-ounce filet.

While mistakes can be made and mix-ups happen, Card pointed out in his TikTok that he visits Texas Roadhouse about once a week and has done so for roughly a year now, and this is the third time that he has received a sirloin in place of his filet mignon. Card ends his video with a warning that customers should be careful when dining out and ordering steak to avoid being charged for a cut they didn’t receive.

Card was given a cut of meat that’s a third of the price of filet mignon

Card’s main complaint, aside from the frequency of this mistake, is the cost. As he explains, a filet mignon tends to run around $30 to $35 for an eight-ounce cut, which is the standard size offered by restaurants in the United States. Meanwhile, a sirloin is a much cheaper cut that runs around $10.

If Card hadn’t pointed out that the cut was wrong, which was then confirmed when it was taken back to the kitchen and checked by a chef, he likely would have been charged the price of a filet mignon despite that not being what he ate.

Card asked the manager how he had received the wrong cut three times now, to which he claims the manager acted like he was crazy and told him that was impossible. He says that when he followed that up with the question of how it happened this time if it’s impossible, the manager had no response.

TikTok lets consumers warn each other

When it comes to stories about experiences eating out, Card’s tale is just one of many times that customers have been unhappy with what they received. Sometimes, the issue is what they didn’t receive, which happened to a Chipotle customer who asked for dressing and got a nearly empty cup.

The problems aren’t limited to the food industry either, as one woman found out when she went to get a luxury pedicure and ended up receiving additional fees for removing her current nail polish, getting new polish applied, and for the salon flip-flops if she wanted to keep them.

As Card said at the end of his video, “Y’all be careful.”
