Woman sits for a $47 luxury pedicure. Then the employee allegedly charges for the polish and $1 flip-flops: ‘girl why?’

Lack of communication

A luxury pedicure should feel like a treat, not a lesson on inflation. One woman experienced this firsthand when she was reportedly billed extra for nail polish, $1 flip-flops, and other services she thought were part of the initial price.

Haley (halesmh) shared in a TikTok video that she was quoted $47 for a luxury pedicure at a salon. She admitted she didn’t think to ask what the package included, but when the employee started working on her feet, they mentioned an extra $5 charge for removing the gel nail polish on her toes.

Haley was okay paying the amount, but then she said the employee told her callus removal would be an additional $5. This service should ideally be included in the package, but Haley was still willing to pay, as she mentioned.

However, she was shocked to be told that putting nail polish on her feet would also cost an additional $2. “And then she picks up the pink toenail polish that I picked off the wall that they told me to pick, and she said, ‘To paint your toes will be $2 and I said, ‘ Girl, why? And she said, ‘That’s just the upcharge.’ I said, ‘Okay, I want to be done. Get me out of here.’” Haley recalled her exchange with the employee.

Haley then said the salon employee asked if she wanted the “flimsy little flip-flops” that keep her nail polish from smudging while it dries. She said that after she replied in the affirmative, the employee told her the flip-flops would cost $1 each. “I said, ‘Girl, I will walk out of here barefoot, and I don’t care if I smudge the toenail polish?’ Like, are you kidding me?’” Haley said.

Then Haley talked about her experience trying to pay for the services she had used. “And we go to the register, and she’s like, $47 and $5 and $5 and $5.” She also said that after paying such a hefty pedicure cost, she didn’t tip the employee, and she apparently confronted her over it. She recalled the interaction and said, “And she goes, ‘Oh, no tip.’ I said, ‘You just nickel-and-dimed me over a pedicure. No, I’m not tipping you.’”

“They’re doing too much now”

It appears Haley’s isn’t an isolated incident, as a few people in the comments on her post said they’d experienced something similar. One person said, “Once my salon started charging for the nail SHAPE I never went back. They’re doing too much now.” Another person spoke about inflation regarding movie tickets and wrote, “My husband and I went to a Sunday matinee at the theater and each ticket was $17.50. For a MATINEE. I hate it here.”

A few people made light of the situation by joking about it. One person commented, “Isn’t painting your toenails the whole point of a pedicure? Hahaha.” Another remarked, “So what WAS included in the luxury package!?!? Just the name “luxury”?!?!

A $47 luxury pedicure should include clear cost communication, with no surprises at checkout. Extra charges for treatments must be upfront to ensure transparency and fairness and to uphold the luxury experience, as Haley demanded in her video.
