Lupita Nyong’o Says There’s Way More Frenzy Among Her Friends About Black Panther Than Star Wars

Recommended Videos

Lupita Nyong’o went on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about the hype around the upcoming Marvel film Black Panther, the cast’s Coming to America party, and her undercover Comic-Con appearance. This included a new clip from the film that shows and incredible fight scene with her and Chadwick Boseman where this happens:

What more encouragement do you need to see this movie?!

Now, as a member of two huge franchises: the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars, Nyong’o is no stranger to the attention and excitement these projects bring. However, when Kimmel asked her who she brought to the premiere, the actress talks about what a process it was to select her 25 guests. When asked if it was easy, Nyong’o replied:

“No it wasn’t, you know. For the first time–I’m a part of Star Wars so I know frenzy, alright? But for the first time in my life, people, once the trailer came out last year, people started hitting me up to try and attend the premiere! And I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’m going to lose friends this time.’ I had to be very careful and very strategic about how I invited people.”

I can’t blame any of Nyong’o’s friends or acquaintances for hitting her up for tickets. After all, the film has reached record numbers in advance sales. Reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, with many ranking it as one of, if not the best, MCU movie.

Black Panther opens February 16th.
