The war drama Lioness starring Ellen Page as a lesbian U.S. Marine has found a director in Reed Morano, who directed Meadowland and worked as a cinematographer on films like Kill Your Darlings and Frozen River. Morano is also one of the youngest members of the American Society of Cinematographers and one of 14 women.

Page will portray Lance Corporal Leslie Martz, leader of the first Female Engagement Team in Afghanistan where she “tasked with the dual mandate of gaining the trust of Afghan women by equipping them with necessary skills for independence but also secretly extracting information from them about their Taliban husbands” in Haditha, Iraq. At the same time, Martz was hiding her homosexuality and dealing with her conflicting loyalty to her superiors.

Rosalind Ross of Matador is the writer, so it seems like a heavily women-driven team. The film will start shooting in 2016. While I like this team, I’m always a bit hesitant about war dramas like these, what do you think?
