Kristi Noem files for divorce from husband after thirty-four years, and his controversial past may have played a part

The End

Former United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem has filed for divorce from her husband of thirty-four years, Bryon Noem, citing “irreconcilable differences,” according to reports from several reputable news outlets, including The Guardian. According to the source, Noem’s lawyer, Michael Sabers, signed the “for settlement purposes only” divorce claim on April 6, 2026, shortly after her husband’s controversial images were made public and almost a month after she was fired from her job.

For context, The Daily Mail published several images in March 2026 showing Bryon Noem in clothes typically worn by women and wearing large fake breasts. It was revealed that Noem led a double life online, with one persona centered on “bimbofication.” According to Progressive Therapeutic Collective, the term refers to a “practice, kink, or fetish” involving role-playing and adopting the stereotypical image of a “bimbo.”

Kristi and Bryon Noem have three children together. They are also grandparents to four children. In public, they have generally maintained a conservative family image while acknowledging they aren’t perfect. Notably, in 2022, she told Elysian, “People know me, and we are such a transparent family. I don’t know of another elected official that puts their family life out there, with their kids. All the funny, awkward, difficult moments.” Emphasizing the need to be real, she also said that it is a requirement of her job.

This was not the only controversy Kristi Noem has had to deal with this year

Kristi Noem’s role as Secretary of Homeland Security has been marked by significant controversy. Noem’s department oversaw U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which conducted stringent crackdowns on immigrants from 2025 onward during Donald Trump’s second term as President. Over the past year, ICE has been accused of inflicting violence on people in America on multiple occasions, including allegations of killing innocent Americans. Case in point: Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

Beyond that, Noem has also faced personal attacks, especially regarding her relationship with her then-acting chief of staff, Corey Lewandowski. During her time as Secretary of Homeland Security, various reports alleged she was having an affair with Lewandowski, who himself faced accusations of leveraging his proximity to her. The rumors grew so intense that Noem was even asked about them, including during a House Judiciary Committee hearing in March.

Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove had notably asked Noem if she had “had sexual relations with Corey Lewandowski.” Debunking her accusations, Noem at the time had said, “I am shocked we’re going down and peddling tabloid garbage in this committee.”
