Kagurabachi shot to fame through memes. Now that Jujutsu Kaisen is almost over and My Hero Academia just finished, readers are starting to take this meme manga seriously.
Beyond the memes, Kagurabachi has grown to have a compelling story. There are many stories about a boy who’s exceptionally talented with swords and who has a tragic backstory. You probably thought about Bleach or Demon Slayer with that description alone.
Nevertheless, the series is showing potential with the manga’s gorgeous visuals and its action-packed plot. In less than 40 chapters, Kagurabachi was able to prove that Chihiro’s journey to avenge his father and retrieve the Enchanted Blades is worth following.
Chapter 47 of Kagurabachi will be available on September 1, 2024. You can read the latest chapter of the manga for free at MangaPlus by Shueisha.
Part of the next big three?
When was the last time that the Big Three of anime didn’t involve a guy with magical powers who also wields a sword out of grief? Through the decades, Rurouni Kenshin, Bleach, and Demon Slayer all had that trope in common. If Kagurabachi becomes an anime, the fights alone would look epic on screen. It’s like seeing Demon Slayer and the breathing styles animated all over again.
Art aside, what got readers hooked on this once-memed manga was its plot. If you can get over how angsty Chihiro himself is in the first few chapters, you’ll find a story worth reading for the next few months of 2024.
