Issa Rae Is Working on Two New Shows, and They Both Sound Amazing

A drama starring a bisexual man and a "black Beverly Hills"

Issa Rae is plenty busy with a third season of Insecure on the way and recent headlines about a dystopian sci-fi drama, but it’s just been reported that the show creator and star has two more projects in the works—and they both sound incredible.

First, Rae will executive produce the half-hour comedy Him or Her with former Daily Show writer Travon Free. Variety reports, “The single camera half-hour chronicles the dating life of a bisexual black man and the distinctly different worlds and relationships he finds himself in.” Rae has talked about wanting to approach more LGBTQ+ conversations in Insecure, which the show did briefly with a discussion about a bisexual man. It’ll be interesting to see how Him or Her goes, and the idea of a show that centers around a bisexual character of color is incredibly exciting.

The second show is a one-hour drama called Sweet Life, a “coming of age tale of the well-heeled teens growing up in the LA neighborhood” co-created with Scandal producer Raamla Mohamed. Vulture‘s take on it is that it “sounds like a black 90210“, so if you’re looking for some good, dramatic, soapiness this’ll be the show for you.

Are you looking forward to Rae’s upcoming projects?
