Following an extremely bumpy first day of iPhone 4 preordering during which lines at AT&T stores were jammed and some customers had their credit card and personal information exposed by AT&T’s faulty online system (but the first round of iPhone 4s available for preorder still managed to sell out), AT&T is putting the breaks on all preordering for both the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS 8GB, according to the following memo obtained by Boy Genius Report. Ouch.
Pre-orders for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS 8GB are Temporarily Suspended
Effective close of business on June 15, 2010, the ability to place pre-orders (new activations, upgrades and exchanges) has been temporarily suspended. Â There is a special team that will be manually working all pre-orders from June 15th that were held in a pending status. Â Under no circumstances should new pre-orders be attempted in the system.
This suspension impacts Phoenix, Premier, OPUS (COR), and System X (DMDR).
Please stay tuned to future bulletin communications for any updates.
While the first batch of preorders, which are due to ship for June 24th, had sold out, previously, the plan had been for all iPhones preordered thereafter to ship for July 2nd; this throws a monkey wrench into that. No date has been announced for the resumption of shipping.
