Iowa Woman Goes to a Bar, Then Gets Approached by a Guy, Only for Him to Leave Mid-conversation Because of This One Reason: ‘get some new friends’

His loss

For someone who has always been thin, I noticed that when I suddenly gained weight in eighth grade, everything felt very different from when I was smaller and considered prettier. One of the first things I observed was that my friends started treating me differently, almost like there was an unspoken reluctance to see me as a person. I didn’t understand it at the time because I was too young to process these big feelings, but now I realize it, and thinking about it makes me very uncomfortable.

Just three days ago, TikTok user @diaryofemmym shared a story about a guy who approached her at a bar and then vanished mid-conversation. Turns out, he was just trying to prove a point to his friends: that bigger women are easier. Her story, though personal to her, triggered some deep-rooted emotions that I had hidden away in the corner of my mind for many years. Continue reading to know what exactly happened.

@diaryofemmym narrates a story about the struggles of being a bigger woman

As mentioned earlier, @diaryofemmym shared a video on her TikTok account three days ago in which she discussed a specific incident of being treated differently because of her appearance, especially her weight.

In her video, @diaryofemmym explains that on her birthday, she went out with a few friends to a bar. While sitting, she noticed a couple of boys at a nearby table who kept looking in their direction. Eventually, one of the guys approached the table, then walked straight up to Emmy and started talking to her. As their conversation went on, Emmy wasn’t very interested in him but played along as her friends encouraged her.

At one point, this guy asked Emmy for her number. But, before she could give it, he turned to his friends and said, “You guys owe me 50 dollars.” Then he started laughing with his friends and suddenly left the conversation to join them. One of his friends later remarked, “I told you, fat bitches are easy,” which understandably shook Emmy’s confidence. That too on her birthday!!

@diaryofemmym’s TikTok story has invited a lot of attention

@diaryofemmym’s TikTok video, where she talks about how she became the target of a joke in front of her friends when a group of men decided to manipulate her emotions just because she was overweight, has gained a lot of attention on the platform. Many people in the comments were upset that Emmy’s friends didn’t defend her or do anything, considering that these guys and their friends randomly disrespected her. User @maggiediamond3 wrote, “Girl, I’m bored let’s get some new friends.” User @cdntraveller said, “What do you mean your friends just sat.”

Almost everyone is disgusted by what happened to @diaryofemmym. User @tree.mama19 commented, “Hearing that hurt my heart. Like, I felt a physical pain from that because I’ve been there. I’m so incredibly sorry that happened to you. You’re beautiful.” User @austincnicole said, “i wish i was there by your side girl because holy hell i would’ve made a SCENE.”

Fatshaming someone can have a detrimental effect on them

Fat shaming someone can often lead to negative consequences for the victim, sometimes reversible or irreversible. One of the main effects of fat shaming is weight gain. According to Healthline, some other harmful effects of fat shaming supported by studies are as follows:

  • Depression: People who are discriminated against due to weight are more susceptible to experiencing depression and other mental health issues.
  • Reduced self-esteem: One of the direct consequences of fat shaming is that it typically lowers the victim’s self-esteem.
  • Eating disorders: People who experience fat shaming are at an increased risk of developing eating disorders, including binge eating.
  • Additional effects: Weight discrimination can cause stress, weight gain, mental problems, and increased cortisol levels, which in turn raise one’s risk of chronic illnesses.
