Awkward Black Girl Creator Issa Rae Has No Time to Waste in HBO’s Insecure

"We are not about to be the black couple fighting in Rite Aid."

For those who followed The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl on Youtube, get excited. Creator Issa Rae is about to star in her own HBO show called Insecure, which was co-created by Larry Wilmore. The eight-episode series follows the friendship of two black women as they try to navigate through even more hilariously awkward moments.

A new trailer for the half-hour comedy just dropped, and it’s all about not wasting time on the things that don’t matter in life. The two-minute clip features boyfriend arguments, cringeworthy conversations and plenty of things to laugh at because it’s not your life.

I have to say, I’m really excited to see this show. Even from that small snippet of film, I can already tell that that it has the potential to be something really special. Plus, showing up to a cocktail party in converse shoes is definitely something I can relate to. I think Miley Cyrus ruminated over something similar in “Party in the USA.”

I’m also stoked about the cast, which includes Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis (who you might recognize from BET’s The Game) and Lisa Joyce. Catch them all together when the show premieres on Oct. 9.
