Groom calls his bride ‘Emily’ in front of their wedding guests. Then she reveals the identity of the woman he is actually naming
Well, at least the mystery woman was already part of the family.

A groom had one very important name to remember on his wedding day. Unfortunately, while repeating his vows in front of their guests, he somehow managed to call his bride “Emily” instead of “Emma.”
Emma Grace Pumfrey shared the awkward moment on TikTok, where her husband is repeating the officiant’s words while holding her hands. Everything appears to be going normally until he gets to her name and says someone else’s name instead.
Emma immediately corrects him, and the groom realizes his mistake before nervously laughing and swearing. One of the wedding guests can also be heard reacting to the painfully awkward moment.
But the name he used wasn’t completely random. Emily is Emma’s sister. Emma’s caption on the video read, “Plot twist: it’s my sister’s name. Still not over being called Emily at the altar.” The 11-second clip went viral, reaching 2.2 million views, and viewers had plenty to say about the groom’s very unfortunate Freudian slip.
Viewers were not ready to let this one go
The comments quickly turned into an investigation, with some viewers convinced that there had to be more behind the name mix-up. Wedding drama apparently brings out the detective in everyone.
Some accused the groom of having feelings for Emma’s sister, while others said they would have called off the wedding on the spot. The situation also reminded viewers of Ross Geller’s infamous wedding mistake in Friends, when he said Rachel’s name instead of Emily’s at the altar. The comparisons to the sitcom flooded the comments.
Emma, however, has been considerably less suspicious of her husband than TikTok.
According to The Sun, Emma pushed back against commenters who were waiting for a future update revealing an affair. She said her husband “doesn’t even call her Emily in real life” and told viewers they would be “waiting forever and ever” for the dramatic update they were expecting.
She also explained why she wasn’t particularly worried about the fact that he had used her sister’s name.
“If it was a random name, I would have QUESTIONS,” Emma wrote in response to one commenter. “My sister is my best friend. I have no concerns,” she said. So while TikTok was busy building a conspiracy around one wrong name, Emma seemed to regard it as exactly what she said it was: a nervous mistake.
Emma says she would do it all again
Apparently, telling the internet that everything was fine wasn’t enough to stop people from questioning the marriage. Emma later shared another TikTok responding to the people who thought she should have stopped the wedding. In the post, she revealed that more than a million people had told her to call it off, calling the reaction “slightly dramatic in hindsight.”
She said she was “very glad” she ignored the internet and went ahead with the wedding because it was, “unfortunately,” one of the best days of her life.
Her final verdict on the whole thing was even more definitive: “10/10 would marry the man who forgot my name again.” So, yes, the groom called his bride by another woman’s name at the altar.
But that woman was Emma’s sister, Emma says she has no concerns about her husband, and the couple apparently survived the incident just fine. TikTok may have found its latest wedding-day mystery, but the bride herself seems to have already closed the case.
