After being invited to a wedding in Italy as a plus one, she ended up ditching her date after discovering his suspicious contacts on his phone
He wasn't into her.
Moriah (@moriahmagdalena) matched with a man on Hinge while she was in New York City. He invited her to be his plus-one for a wedding in Italy, but after seeing suspicious content on his phone, she decided to ditch her date altogether.
“He was sweet and offered to cover all the expenses. He covered my flight, he covered the Airbnb, he covered all food,” Moriah told TikTok. She said that her date had weddings to attend back-to-back in Europe, and they planned to go together to a wedding in Italy where he needed a plus-one. Initially, they intended to go to Rome, stay together in Portugal, and then part ways, with the man going to his Scotland wedding and Moriah heading to Barcelona.
Moriah said she knew the man had a strong drive. Because they could be intimate, Moriah asked him to get tested, and he complied. He had no issues, and Moriah clarified that she had no intention of starting to date him exclusively. She said, “He’s a sweet, fun guy. Let’s just have fun in another country.”
However, when the trip started, Moriah said he didn’t try to connect with her intimately. While he would kiss her, Moriah said he didn’t try to hold her hand in Europe, even though she was wearing heels. It wasn’t a big deal for Moriah, but what she found on his phone slightly alarmed her.
Her date had suspicious profiles on his phone
During the night of the wedding, they were out with his friends. Moriah commented, “They are so great. The wedding was fabulous.” She had no issue with the company he had, but at the end of the night, her date showed her a photo his cat sitter sent him. The cat sitter, whom he called his friend, allegedly had a strange profile photo.
When she looked at the photo, her eyes strayed to the profile photo. “I see the photo that he has saved of her contact info, and it’s just her backside,” she alleged. Moriah claimed she didn’t see the woman’s face or even undergarments covering her back.
Moriah dismissed it and went with him to the after-party. The groom and bride were coming, and his friends were coupled up. Moriah wanted to sit next to him, but he said he was too preoccupied with his phone and texting people all night. “While everyone’s talking, he’s just glued to his phone. What is he doing?” she mused.
Moriah went up to him and saw a message come in on his phone. It was from a female name, and she asked if he was texting girls. He denied it, saying that he was texting someone about sports. Moriah said she felt gaslit about his response. “Even if he was texting guys about sports, we’re at a wedding. Everyone’s coupled up,” she said.
What made her walk away
After a few days, Moriah said her date started accumulating red flags in Italy. However, things worsened when they got to Portugal. While they were sitting on the couch, Moriah said he saw her date texting other women on his phone.
“While we’re sitting next to each other, he points out how this other girl texted him,” Moriah said, continuing, “She was asking when the next schmex party is.” Moriah was stunned by the question, and her date allegedly started reasoning that he sometimes goes to these explicit events. However, that wasn’t what made her walk away. Her date said he had a friend in Portugal who could recommend places for them to visit.
Moriah was amenable to the idea and even agreed to having dinner with the other woman. He pulled up their messages, and Moriah said. In his contact photo, this friend wore only a bikini. Although Moriah met the friend at dinner, he later suggested he’d leave Moriah to work on her book and hang out with the friend in Lisbon instead. She felt excluded, and while they tried to rekindle their dynamic, Moriah ultimately left him.
She booked a hotel at 2:00 a.m. a few days later, and then found herself an Airbnb a day after. While Moriah had at least enjoyed the wedding she attended with her date, another woman was devastated after her fiancé canceled a few days before the event.
