This is the most wonderfully random statue I have ever seen. It’s not weird at all that the airport in Wellington, New Zealand would be home to a Lord of the Rings statue in the first place… but a ginormous Gollum coming out of the wall and reaching across the room for a similarly oversized fish? That’s unexpected. And awesome. And also kind of creepy.
The 13m statue was created by Weta as a promotion for The Hobbit (naturally), but I for one will be very disappointed if it gets taken down after the first movie is out. Or all three movies. Or ever. I want people to fly into the Wellington airport 500 years from now and wonder what we were all on in the 21st century.
