Gary Oldman Claims the Next James Bond Has Been Chosen, and the New 007 Might Just Be His Co-Star
The announcement might be coming soon.
The beloved James Bond franchise might finally be seeing a new 007 after Daniel Craig, according to Oscar-winning Gary Oldman. While Amazon MGM Studios remained tight-lipped, fans speculated on who was in the running to join the next James Bond movie as the titular spy. But Oldman claimed that the search is over and a decision had already been made.
Variety reported that Oldman’s interview with The Morning Show suggested that his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden may have beaten other strong contenders to become the new James Bond in the upcoming installment. According to him, it’s only a matter of time until it’s officially announced.
“It’s been rumored that [Lowden] is on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we?” Oldman said. “Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”
Fans have speculated on several actors
Since the announcement of a new James Bond movie, fans have been wild with guesses and theories. Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, Harris Dickinson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Lowden were some of the names believed to have made it to the final stages for the next superspy.
Some even reported that Enola Holmes star Louis Partridge was a contender, and Broadway star Tom Francis had auditioned for the role. Others even hoped to see Henry Cavill don the suit. Yet, producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal remain secretive about the selection process and have declined to comment on the whispers going around.
Debbie McWilliams, however, shut down some of the rumors. McWilliams, who helped cast the previous James Bond actors, told The Independent that the spy needs to retain his “enigma” through the actor.

“I don’t want to see [Elordi, Turner, et al] as Bond because we now know so much about them,” McWilliams said. “We want to know as little about them personally as possible, because that’s what spies are.”
Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, the screenwriter for the upcoming James Bond movie, confirmed in an interview with Radio 4’s Today that the search for the lead role is over. He even hinted that the decision was made long ago, as he had been writing the script with a certain actor in mind.
As of now, there’s still no official announcement about who James Bond will be. But it’s only a matter of time, as the newest installment is slated to go into production in 2027 with Denis Villeneuve as the director.
