So, while no one was looking, Garth Ennis (Preacher) wrote and directed a “supernatural horror war film” called Stitched that is now set to premiere at San Diego Comic Con later this month. The short film will eventually become a full-length film, and come November, STITCHED will be sold on DVD with the new comic it’s based on. Surprise!

Ennis executive produced Stitched with William Christensen of Avatar Press, which will publish the upcoming comic series. He says that once serious interest in a Preacher movie began, he started getting more and more into writing screenplays — he wrote one for Crossed, which had Kevin Spacey attached to it at one point. But once he had the story, the script, and then the opportunity to go ahead and direct Stitched, he took it. And now he has a short film premiering at SDCC.

And here’s what it’s about, from Bleeding Cool:

The film sees “three survivors of an American helicopter crash struggle across the high mountains of Afghanistan. They’re injured, without food, water, or medicine, and moving through Taliban-controlled territory. Among the sun-bleached rocks, they discover something worse than enemy fighters: an ancient supernatural power – murderous, unstoppable, and serving a twenty-first century evil.”

The aforementioned full-length feature and the comic it’s based on will be written by Ennis and drawn by Mike Wolfer. The comic will see a November release and be accompanied with the DVD of the short film. That will be available in comic book stores. BUT — the short can be ordered at Comic Cavalcade starting in August. BUT ALSO — if you’re attending SDCC, you will be able to get an autographed DVD there if you order ahead of time (also at Comic Cavalcade).

Along with Ennis and Christensen of Avatar Press, Stitched was produced by Brian Pulido, Francisca Pulido, and Ed Polgardy of Mischief Maker Studios. It stars Tank Jones, Lauren Alonzo, and Kate Kugler. All of those people will be appearing at San Diego Comic Con on Thursday, July 21 at 8:15 pm in Room 6DE. There is also an official site with even more information that you will want to check out: Fear the Stitched.
