Frasier Star Kelsey Grammer Claims He Knows Exactly What the Other Candidates Will Do in a Shocking Endorsement for LA Mayor
A push for capitalism.
Kelsey Grammer threw his full weight behind Spencer Pratt in the Los Angeles mayoral race, calling him the only “real option” voters have. The Frasier star made it clear he’s done with the status quo and knows exactly what the other candidates will bring to the table. The Los Angeles mayoral primary took place on June 2, 2026. With around 60% of votes counted, incumbent Mayor Karen Bass with 34.8%, was in the lead but fell short of the 50% needed to win outright. She is advancing to the November 3, 2026, runoff.
If no one grabs more than 50% of the vote, the top two contenders face off in a runoff. At 30.4%, Pratt is currently in second place followed by Nithya Raman’s 22.3%. Grammer’s endorsement of Pratt isn’t just a casual nod. It’s a full-throated declaration that Pratt is the candidate who can shake things up. “He’s the only guy that’s a real option,” Grammer told Fox News. “We know what the rest is gonna do.”
Grammer has been vocal about his frustration with California’s political leadership, especially Democratic policies. At a recent event for Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Grammer called the state’s direction “horribly run” and even took a shot at Bass with a nickname. “I just call her Karen Bass-ackwards. That’s what we’ve always called her in my house.” According to Complex, he also criticized Governor Gavin Newsom, saying he hopes “we’ve heard the last of him.”
Pratt’s campaign gained momentum in the last few days
One survey put him slightly ahead of Bass, with 30.1% support compared to her 29.5%. Another poll showed Bass’s approval rating underwater, with only 32% of respondents giving her a thumbs-up and a staggering 66% disapproving of her performance. Whether Grammer’s endorsement is the reason for Pratt’s surge or just fueling it, the numbers suggest Bass is in for a tough fight.
Bass recently secured an endorsement from Jane Fonda, who praised her work on civil rights, women’s rights, and climate issues. “At a time when Donald Trump is attacking our city, our immigrant neighbors, and the freedoms generations of women fought to win, Angelenos need leaders willing to stand up and speak out,” Bass said.
It’s a stark contrast to Grammer’s vision for the city, which leans heavily into his belief in capitalism, personal responsibility, and what he calls the “American Dream.” Grammer’s political views are deeply personal. He’s a father of eight, and he’s made it a priority to pass down his values to his kids. A long-time supporter of Trump, the beloved TV icon has talked about opening Trump Accounts for his younger children.
These government-backed savings accounts, designed for kids under 18, come with a one-time $1,000 contribution from the government for eligible children born between 2025 and 2028. Parents and relatives can add more money over time, and the funds grow tax-deferred, later usable for education, buying a home, or starting a business.
Grammer has been a long-time supporter of Trump
“I said to my accountant, ‘Let’s get a Trump account. Let’s get this thing going,'” Grammer recalled. “And then, of course, I found out that the other kids can have them.” He sees the accounts as a way to teach financial literacy and get young people “in the game.”
“If you come from a place of kindness and you come from a space of respect for others, all the other things will fall into place,” he said. “If you understand you gotta balance a checkbook, you gotta pay your bills, you gotta pay your taxes, there’s a whole world of stuff you have to maintain. That’s your ticket to freedom.”
Grammer’s enthusiasm for the Trump Accounts is about financial responsibility. “It’s our responsibility to pass on to them this idea that you are obligated to be part of the system, to be a good part of it, to actually give back, to be involved in commerce, but to do something right, to do it well, and to make sure that you hurt as few other people as possible in the process,” he said.
It’s a philosophy that aligns with his support for Pratt, who he clearly believes will bring a similar mindset to City Hall. The contrast between Grammer’s vision and Bass’s couldn’t be clearer. While Bass leans into progressive values and social justice, Grammer is all about individual empowerment and economic opportunity.
His endorsement of Pratt isn’t just about politics
It is about a fundamental belief in what makes America work. “This is still the greatest country in the world for a lot of reasons. And one of those reasons is capitalism,” he said. For Grammer, the mayor’s office, more than about managing a city, is about setting the tone for what kind of future Angelenos want.
Now, all eyes are on Los Angeles. Grammer’s endorsement has added a layer of star power to Pratt’s campaign, and the polls suggest it might be making a difference.
