Florida man thinks a tree is walking to his house. Nobody believed him until he started measuring its movement

TikTok user ‘sorrytoyourdad’ from Florida has made an eerie discovery—a random tree is getting closer and closer to his home. He suspected that the tree can walk and began recording the tree’s movements. TikTok started believing him, but is the tree really moving?
“That thing is not real,” he said on his first TikTok video. The man said that the tree to the left is a familiar tree, but the one next to it? He says it wasn’t in any of his childhood photos. and “doesn’t show up on Google Maps.”
“On top of that, I feel like it’s been getting closer to me,” he revealed. He said he measured the distance between the tree and his house one night, and it was 377 feet away. When he measured it later in the morning, the tree was 345 feet away. If his logic were correct, the tree walked 32 feet in the direction of his home overnight.
Some TikTok users believed him, with one saying, “With 0% evidence, I believe this.”
Another wrote, “377’ to 345’ is actually kind of scary tbh.”
A fake plastic tree that moves
One observation the man noted is that the supposed “fake” tree doesn’t have any birds that perch on it. By the second video, he said that the tree was already 339 feet away from his house.
For some reason, the man thought that the tree was also made of plastic. He said it looked shiny, and TikTok fed into the idea. The man says he received a call from “someone” and was told to “stop filming” the alleged fake tree. He doesn’t clarify where the call came from or from whom.
By the time the fourth video rolled around, the tree was already 337 feet away from his house. It just keeps getting closer and closer, and some shady figure clearly doesn’t want the world to know the truth behind this strange tree.
One social media comment reads, “I can see it, but I also feel like I’m easily gaslightable.”
That social media commenter is at least aware, because there’s nothing “glossy” about the tree. It also doesn’t seem to be moving, so what exactly is wrong with it? While strange things and sights are the usual for Florida, there’s definitely nothing wrong with the tree from TikTok.
Is the TikTok tree really moving on its own?
Most trees are incapable of moving from one place to another. The walking palm (socratea exorrhiza) is the only tree known to move on its own. Native to South America, the walking palm can walk 20 meters per year. It’s impressive enough that a tree can move, but it definitely can’t run or play freeze tag as the man from TikTok implies.
Oak trees, which are presumably what the man shows in the videos, are deeply rooted to the ground. This species grows from 60 to 100 feet as well, making the thought of moving on its own impossible.
That being said, is the tree fake? If these trees aren’t supposed to be moving, why does the man say it is? Just because he said so doesn’t mean it’s true—and perhaps the old adage, “don’t believe everything you see on the internet,” is the best thing to apply in this scenario.
It would be best to believe that these are just the ramblings of a strange Florida man.
