The Mary Sue Exclusive Premiere: The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy Book Trailer!

Guys, our very own Sam Maggs has written an incredible book (heck, it’s already Margaret Atwood-approved!) and we’re so excited to be debuting the trailer on the site today.

The trailer was directed by Spencer Barclay of Loading Doc Productions (who actually has another project that may be relevant to your interests as well!) and features Sam’s Geek Girl’s Litany for Feminism:

I am a geek girl and I am a feminist.
I embrace the word “fangirl” with open arms.
I don’t have to prove my nerd cred to anyone ever.
Whether I’m a comics n00b, or a fic writer typing up her next chapter, or a hardcore gamer who sometimes forgets to sleep (not that I ever do that), no one else gets to decide whether I do or do not belong.
From SuperWhoLock to Shakarian I accept all fandoms and ships as equally meaningful and important in our geek girl lives.
Even if your OTP is my NOTP, I will still like you (though I may have to unfollow your blog).
I will support empowering, lady-created media and amazing female characters that make me feel like I could be Batgirl, if I just had some yellow Doc Martens and a vigilante complex.
I’m the Doctor, not a companion; Buffy not Bella; nobody’s sidekick, love interest or token female.
I’m driving this ship.
I’m a fangirl, a feminist, and a force to be reckoned with.

The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy is out May 12th in stores and online, but you can pre-order it here right now to get some free geeky swag! In addition to a signed bookplate, you could also become the proud owner of a fangirl button pack:

A Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy poster (I have one in my room. It is super inspiring):

Or a Fangirl’s Convention Survival Kit:

Speaking of conventions, The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy will be sold for the first time this weekend at C2E2! You can pick up your own copy at the Quirk Books Booth (booth #516), where Sam will also be doing signings from 5-6 on Friday and 11 am-12 pm on Sunday.

In the meantime, here are a few more details from Quirk about what Fangirl’s Guide has in store:

Fanfic, cosplay, cons, books, memes, podcasts, vlogs, OTPs and RPGs and MMOs and more—it’s never been a better time to be a girl geek. The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy is the ultimate handbook for ladies living the nerdy life, a fun and feminist take on the often male-dominated world of geekdom.

With delightful illustrations and an unabashed love for all the in(ternet)s and outs of geek culture, this book is packed with tips, playthroughs, and cheat codes for everything from starting an online fan community to planning a convention visit to supporting fellow female geeks in the wild.
