Navigating the sprawling aisles of a furniture warehouse with young children is a challenge even in the best circumstances. But it can become an absolute nightmare when you fail to keep up with your toddler. For digital creator Natalie Faith (@nataliefaithhh), a family shopping trip turned into second-hand embarrassment when her five-year-old sister created an indoor puddle at IKEA.
Faith recounted the chaotic showroom incident while unboxing a skincare tool in a TikTok video. The family reportedly went for a shopping trip picking out bedroom furniture for their newly built first floor. But despite their best effort, it spiraled into chaos. Enter family blame games, a fabricated spill report, and a panicked sprint through model rooms to escape the crime scene.
Eldest siblings frequently bear the brunt of parental blame during public family outings. As an elder sibling, Faith reportedly had to take the fallout of the incident. She also became the one who had to face social mortification in the crowded store. This overrode her rational problem-solving, leading her to flee rather than face embarrassment.
A showroom disaster struck the crowded aisles of IKEA
The visit began innocently enough after Faith’s family built a new upstairs addition to their home. Heading out to furnish her new bedroom, Faith was joined by her mother and four younger siblings. Under normal circumstances, the younger kids would have been dropped off at the store’s supervised play area.
However, because the children had forgotten to wear socks, the facility turned them away. This left Faith to supervise them throughout the shopping run. Faith claimed that she dutifully escorted her five-year-old sister to the restroom not once, but twice within a fifteen minutes.
But toddlers are unpredictable. Moments after catching up with their mother near the showroom displays, the five-year-old stopped in her tracks and peed directly onto the polished concrete floor in front of surrounding shoppers. “We finally like catch up to my mom, right? And I see her for maybe like two minutes, and my youngest sister goes up to her and pisses on the floor. Just pisses on the floor, right in front of her, at IKEA, in front of everyone.”
Faith fabricated a cover story before fleeing the IKEA showroom
Horrified by the public accident, their mother reportedly blamed Faith for failing to manage the child’s bathroom needs. She then scooped up her toddler and made a beeline for the exit doors. Back inside, Faith and her siblings were tasked with tracking down an employee to address the mess.
However, Faith admitted that she was mortified by the thought of confessing that her sister had relieved herself on the showroom floor. So, she decided the clear puddle could easily pass for an ordinary beverage accident. She then approached an associate and reported the pee as a harmless “water spill” down the aisle.
When the helpful worker arrived with paper towels, Faith reportedly offered to wipe it up herself. She wanted to spare him the grim reality of the situation. But predictably, the employee politely refused. He reportedly insisted that customers shouldn’t have to clean up after a mess they didn’t even create.
The second the worker knelt to press a paper towel into the puddle, panic took over. Faith and her sister immediately turned on their heels and sprinted through the display rooms, bolting out of the building without ever looking back.
Reflecting on the frantic escape, Faith concluded her story with a heartfelt apology to the middle-aged associate who was left to discover the truth behind the “water spill” on his own. “I’m sorry. I should not have run,” she owned awkwardly. So, if your kid ever turns a showroom floor into an open restroom, own the mess, warn the staff, and spare the poor floor associate an unpleasant surprise.
