Since last week, a clip of U.S. President Donald Trump has been circulating widely on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), drawing significant attention from netizens. In this particular clip from a July 6, 2026, White House Rose Garden event, Trump appears to refer to rapper and singer Nicki Minaj as the SBA (Small Business Administration) Administrator and praises her contributions to the field. However, many commenters pointed out that Minaj has no connection to the SBA. Others noted that Trump intended to praise someone else for the agency’s success in his speech but mistakenly attributed it to Minaj.
Trump seemingly credits Nicki Minaj for the success of the SBA
Clips going viral on X from Trump’s July 6, 2026, appearance at an event at the White House Rose Garden show him seemingly wrongly attributing the success of the Small Business Administration to Nicki Minaj, who has not been in any way related to the agency whatsoever. For the uninformed, the current Head of the U.S. Small Business Administration is Kelly Loeffler, who was nominated by Trump in 2024 (after he was announced to have won the 2024 presidential race) and was confirmed by the Senate in 2025, following a vote.
In the short clip, Trump says while discussing the SBA’s success, “Jeff (Loeffler’s husband Jeffrey Sprecher) is great, and he is married to a person who is doing a phenomenal job at the SBA small business. Nicki Minaj is so incredible. They call it Small Business Nicki, but when you add it up, it’s bigger than any bank, probably in the world…Larry, it’s right up there…it’s not small business, but she’s done fantastically, and I appreciate it.”
Trump’s gaffe has led to opposing conversations over his cognition
Following the viral spread of the video, in which Trump seemingly refers to Nicki Minaj as the SBA administrator, many people have raised questions about his age and cognitive abilities on social media. These discussions have even led some to consider him unfit to be president and demand his removal.
However, a considerable number of people have also defended his actions in this incident. They have pointed out that what appears to be Trump referring to Nicki Minaj as an SBA administrator is actually him having side conversations with audience members during his speech, including Minaj, who was sitting in the audience at the time.
