Donald Trump seems to be considering renaming another location, and it’s the biggest one yet
From gulf to lake to a bigger body of water.

Donald Trump has revealed the next location he wants to rename: an ocean. He wants to rename either the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean as Trump Ocean or the Ocean of the Americas.
While speaking at a campaign rally in Tennessee on Saturday, the President of the United States said, “We’ve got the Gulf. We’ve got a beautiful lake. We need an ocean. So I was thinking, if either the Atlantic or the Pacific, we call it Trump Ocean or Ocean of the Americas, something like that.”
Trump came to the Clarksville, Tennessee rally to support Republican candidates
Trump has been on the campaign trail to support Republican candidates running in the midterm elections. While previous rallies have been in areas where Republican candidates are struggling in polls or polling close to their opponents, Tennessee is a bit different in that it’s quite reliably Republican. A few days prior, he attended a rally in Syracuse for the same purpose of helping the Republican candidates.
Still, the Tennessee House Speaker, Cameron Sexton, spoke before Trump took the stage, among other state representatives and candidates, and said that Tennessee’s nine seats in Congress will all be Republican for the first time following the midterm elections, which is a possibility.
After the candidates and state representatives, Trump took the stage
Trump started his speech by praising Kid Rock, then commenting on Marsha Blackburn and how she would do a good job as governor. He asked that voters pretend he’s running in the midterms because it increases turnout.
As his speech continued, Trump brought up the possibility of renaming one of the oceans that borders the United States of America, which would add to the other two bodies of water he’s renamed. He’d like to rename the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean after himself or the country, adding to the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario that he renamed the Gulf of America and Lake America, respectively.
While some companies, such as Google and Apple, adhere to the executive orders that Trump uses to rename locations, even changing the names on their maps for users in the United States, executive orders regarding name changes for locations are difficult to enforce.
The President of the United States doesn’t have the authority to rename bodies of water on behalf of the world, which means that countries and companies can keep calling them the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, as these locations are not entirely within the borders of the US. Given the reactions to previous renaming done by Trump, it’s likely that if he renames an ocean, it’ll be updated on map apps for US users, but not much else will happen.
