Cry Over The New Mary Poppins Returns Photos With Me

Recommended Videos

Entertainment Weekly shared a brand new batch of photos from Mary Poppins Returns today and they’re a whimsical delight. The photos give us a look not only at scenes with Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, and Meryl Streep, but also the gorgeous concept art from Disney and behind-the-scenes images of the team practicing their songs.

There’s a generous amount of images with Jack the lamplighter (Miranda’s character), including one where he, Mary Poppins, and the three Banks children Annabel, Georgie, and John (played by Pixie Davies, Joel Dawson, and Nathanael Saleh respectively) jump through London streets during a musical number titled “Trip a Little Light Fantastic.” In contrast, we also see grown up Jane (Emily Mortimer) and Michael Banks (Whishaw) in what’ll be London’s mid-1930s economic slump, “the actual time period of Travers’ books.”

In the synopsis, we’re told that 25 years since the first film, “Number 17 Cherry Tree Lane has become the warm, loving home that banker and artist Michael Banks  shares with his wife and three children. But after the sudden death of Michael’s wife, the Banks family is shattered — even enthusiastic aunt Jane (Emily Mortimer), now a fervent union organizer, and long-time housemaid Ellen (Julie Walters) can’t help lift spirits — and so in time, the once-blossoming home is on the verge of foreclosure.

Cue the arrival of prim and peculiar Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt), who leads Michael’s wayward children (and Jane and Michael themselves) on a series of unbelievable adventures — to the top of Big Ben, the bottom of the ocean, into magical encounters with animated dancing penguins and upside-down cousins (hey, Meryl Streep!). If anyone can help this family find the light they’ve lost, it’s Mary Poppins.”

Now, we’ve been absolutely buzzing since seeing Blunt first don the magical costume and hearing that Julie Andrews gave her full approval, but these images are nothing short of magical. The image of Jack and his band of lamplighters “[lighting] the way to Cherry Tree Lane for Mary Poppins and the Banks children” is going to make me cry just looking at it. When we finally get to see these scenes set to the all new score composer Marc Shaiman wrote with Scott Wittman, we’ll no doubt be full-on ugly sobbing with joy.
