California Woman Trusted Her Friend of 20 Years With a Storage. The Friend Let the Payment Fall Through, and ‘Judge Judy’ Almost Got Involved
This almost became a Judge Judy episode.
MK (@lovemk.xoxo), originally from California, entrusted her friend of 20 years from Houston, Texas, with a storage unit containing her belongings. But after her friend’s alleged betrayal, MK said Judge Judy almost got involved.
“And who needs enemies when you have friends like this?” MK prefaced her story on TikTok. Her childhood friend, whom she nicknamed Ashley, moved to Houston for college. When MK decided to move later on, they got to spend more time together. Over time, MK made new friends and even got into a relationship. She moved in with her partner, but the relationship lasted only until September 2024.
“Unfortunately, it got physical, and I knew I had to move, and I had to come back to California to get my things together and just to get my mind right,” MK said. On the day of the breakup, MK said she called Ashley for help with her belongings. Ashley allegedly allowed MK to put her items in her storage.
MK placed her furniture in the storage, including a bed, dresser, vanity, a TV, and a safe. She claimed the safe contained her late father’s belongings, and everything retrieved from the hospital and his apartment was contained in it.
“I was driving back to California, and there’s only so much I could fit in my car, and I figured everything would be safe with her, so I just left it,” MK claimed. From September to December 2024, MK claimed she was paying Ashley $25 for her share of the storage. MK said Ashley covered the other half, and they effectively shared the storage unit.
A betrayal that made her see red
But by January 2025, Ashley allegedly messaged MK, saying she was taking her items out of the storage unit and that MK would need to cover the full cost and its other fees. MK claimed that during 2025, she agreed to pay Ashley $78 every month, without fail, for the storage unit.
MK said she continued the payment until January 2026. She was about to send her monthly rent for February when Ashley allegedly messaged her, saying she wouldn’t be in Houston and couldn’t pay for the unit herself. Ashley sent the money back, but MK found the setup suspicious.
MK presumed her friend could pay for the storage unit online. Moreover, she was worried about her items, since Ashley allegedly claimed that she wouldn’t be back in Houston until May. Since MK was already heading to Houston for Mardi Gras, she decided to drop by the storage unit and handle the situation herself. She got to the counter and told the employee that she was going to pay for the storage unit.
“She’s searching high and low, and she could not find this storage,” MK said. But after five minutes of searching, the employee allegedly told MK that the unit had been occupied by someone else since May 2025. MK clarified, asking where her items were now located. The employee allegedly replied, saying MK’s items were auctioned off due to “non-payment.” She explained to MK that Ashley has not been paying for the unit. Therefore, her items were auctioned off for $170.
“All I see is red. I immediately texted her,” MK said. She threatened to beat Ashley the next time she sees her. The employee sympathized with MK, claiming she’s never seen a case like this in her 26 years at the company.

When MK suggested a settlement with Ashley, the latter allegedly started claiming she was unemployed. MK disagreed, saying Ashley was self-employed and had money for nails, lashes, and other luxuries.
“I know she was saying she was unemployed because if it did go to court, it would look good on her end because how can the courts have someone pay me if they’re unemployed?” MK said. One day, however, MK claimed she received a letter in the mail. It was allegedly from Judge Judy and her son, claiming they have field researchers looking for cases good enough for the show. The research team supposedly stumbled upon her story with her friend, and MK was invited to appear on Judge Judy.
“I say Judge Judy, yes ma’am! I will be on that show,” MK said. She claimed she called the team, and they offered to pay for her lodging and transportation. However, they also needed Ashley to agree to come on the show.
“Why would she agree to go on national television and tell the world how she slimed her friend out, stole her money, and made her friend lose out on every [expletive] thing?” MK alleged. But it appears that MK’s prediction came true. Ashley allegedly refused to come on the show and work out a settlement plan. Nevertheless, it’s not the end for MK. This woman’s friend allegedly stole $200,000 from her and left her cats for dead, and yet she still got the last laugh.
