I’m going to take full credit for this. Yesterday, when I wrote about the possibility of Christoph Waltz being in the next Muppet movie, I said that if Bret McKenzie didn’t return to write the songs for it I would cry. And last night it was announced that he will be returning. Looks like the universe had my back on this one. You’re welcome, fellow Muppets-Flight of the Conchords fans.

The news is courtesy of Collider writer Steve Weintraub, who ran into The Muppets producer Todd Lieberman at a party and rightly took the opportunity to grill him about the upcoming movie. Aside from the McKenzie news, we now know that shooting will begin in London this January and that there “might” be a new Muppet.

According to ToughPigs (and those guys know their Muppet stuff), this makes McKenzie the first person to be the primary songwriter on two consecutive Muppet films. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this next movie gets a Best Song nomination and that, more importantly, the Muppets actually get to take the stage and perform it this time. I’m counting on you, Academy. Let the Muppets into your heart.
