Feeling conflicted about the fall of Borders Books and what it means for other retail book stores or the path to digital distribution or the death of print media or whatever?

Allow me to solidify your feelings: Borders has to liquidate its inventory, and it’s started today.

Borders officially announced that it was going to begin the process of shutting down on Wednesday, and that it would start that process “as early as” today. Judging by Borders.com, that’s the truth.

Stores will be offering up to 40% off of all items, and honoring all gift cards (though they will not be selling more gift cards, naturally). If you’ve got Borders Bucks, however, spend them soon. They’ll only be valid through the end of this month. Borders Rewards PLUS members will also still receive their extra discounts, but only for “a limited time.”

And, of course, this is only for physical Borders and Waldenbooks locations. Airport stores don’t count. So find your local and get in there while the gettin’s good!

And if you find yourself thinking about how depressing the whole thing kind of is, just remind yourself: cheap books!

Instead she stumbled into a great job: founding and running this very website (she's Editor at Large now, very fancy). She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
