Black man sees old lady being ignored for an hour at pet store. The moment he offers help, workers appear faster than anyone expected: ‘been 2 mins’
Waiting for an employee can turn a simple shopping trip into a test of patience. But when the person waiting is an older customer who says no one has come to help, a stranger stepping in can change the situation very quickly.
That is exactly what happened when TikToker Ojani Moncrieffe (@officialojanimoncrieffe) came across an older woman waiting by the fish tanks at a pet store. She needed an employee to get fish from a tank, and Moncrieffe wanted to know why she was still standing there without assistance.
What happened next has caught plenty of attention online. Instead of walking away or telling her to keep waiting, Moncrieffe decided to find someone himself. His approach was much louder than the woman seemed prepared for, and viewers couldn’t get enough of her reaction.
She may have told the wrong person
In the video, which has received 16.1 million views, Moncrieffe asks the woman how long she has been waiting for help. She replies, “Half an hour at least.” That was apparently long enough for him. “Who the f*** working here?” Moncrieffe asks before telling the woman, “Nah, cause girl, you wait and let these hoes know. Come run these fish out the tank.”
His choice of words seemingly catches the older woman off guard. Moncrieffe quickly realizes it too, briefly stopping to tell her, “My bad. Apologies, grandma.” Still, he doesn’t drop the issue. He tells her that he feels bad about the wait before complaining about the service, saying, “These hoes is lousy.” The woman can then be heard trying to quiet him.
Moncrieffe’s reaction came from seeing someone who seemingly needed help and deciding not to leave her waiting. It’s the kind of frustration that can lead shoppers to step in when an older customer can’t get help, and he clearly had no problem doing exactly that.
Waiting around for an employee can also leave customers taking matters into their own hands. In Moncrieffe’s case, hearing “half an hour at least” was apparently all it took for him to start looking for someone himself.
But viewers found another part of this particular interaction especially funny. Although the woman told Moncrieffe she had been waiting for “half an hour at least,” one commenter joked, “Her knowing its only been 2 mins.”
Whether she had really been waiting for half an hour isn’t possible to determine from the clip. Still, viewers ran with the idea that she might have regretted mentioning the wait once she saw just how seriously Moncrieffe took it. “She regretted telling you,” one person commented. Another had a slightly different interpretation, writing, “She regretted telling you but she was proud.”
For many viewers, however, the bigger takeaway was that Moncrieffe was willing to advocate for an older stranger without hesitation. “This is how I want people to step for my gramma when I’m not around,” one person wrote. “I’m just like this! I look out for all the grandparents lol,” another added. Someone else appreciated people willing to speak up when others might be uncomfortable doing it, writing, “As an introvert, people like you are literally angels lol.”
His choice of words became almost as popular as the interaction itself. “I ain’t hear the word lousy in years,” one viewer commented, while another wrote, “I must use LOUSY more often.”
The video doesn’t establish exactly how long the woman had been waiting before Moncrieffe arrived, despite the “2 mins” joke taking off in the comments. What it does show is that once she told him she needed help, he wasn’t interested in leaving her there to figure it out alone.
