Woman orders doormat from Anthropologie. Then she opens the box and discovers a biohazard: ‘GUYS WHAT IS MY LUCK’

A woman ordered a cute doormat from Anthropologie that said “Feels good to be home” on it. Then she noticed someone’s used drug test right next to the adorable home decoration.
TikToker Delaney Steffen (@delaneysteffen) described the bio-hazard she found in the box, saying, “ I’m about to call their customer service…. Anthropologie what the [expletive].”
It’s unclear how the drug test ended up in her Anthropologie order, but commenters told her it was incredibly concerning. Some even mentioned that Steffen should call the police or reach out to Anthropologie’s corporate line.
What Did Anthropologie Send Her?
When Steffen went to open a cutesy order she made on Anthropologie’s website, she could not have possibly imagined she would find a drug test. When she opened the box, though, there was a very clear container with someone else’s urine in it. Whoever left the test inside the box left it inside a wrapped film, which was visible in the video.
Urine isn’t technically a biohazard by itself, but it can be if the individual who took the test had a Urinary Tract Infection or a pathogen. Urine also usually contains a large amount of bacteria, which can increase the ‘ick factor’ of the entire debacle.
Steffen went into further detail about the order’s condition in her comments section, saying, “The rug was in plastic wrap on top and that’s all I ordered… I opened it and put it outside and then came back to the box to toss it and was surprised there was another item only to realize it was that…def wouldn’t have touched anything had I seen that first. Everything is staying outside until Anthro gives me a resolution lol.”
She also mentioned that an individual’s private information was on the testing bottle. Some commenters pointed out that it could be a potential HIPAA violation, although it’s unclear if it constitutes one.
How Does A Drug Test End Up In An Anthropologie Box?
The biggest and most daunting question most viewers had was: How does a drug test even end up inside an Anthropologie order?
When an online shopper orders something from a large-scale retailer, it gets sent from a warehouse. The online order automatically gets transmitted to a warehouse management system; it runs a quick check to make sure the warehouse has inventory. An employee then packages and labels the product before referring to a “referred carrier” to get it to a customer as fast as possible.
It’s unclear whether Anthropologie contracts its online orders with a warehouse management company or if Anthropologie has its own employees and facilities that specifically handle online orders. Regardless, there’s a likely chance that the drug test ended up in the box sometime during the warehouse handling process. It’s possible that someone may have left the drug test in the box who directly handled the package. One person in Steffen’s comments section assumed that “someone tossed it in there because they weren’t going to pass.”

Since posting her video, Steffen has tried to get in touch with Anthropologie. It’s unclear whether they’ve provided next steps or a solution for the issue.
The Mary Sue reached out to Steffen via TikTok direct message and URBN via press email for more information.
