London Woman's Passport Expired a Day Before Her Solo Trip. Missed Trains and a Closing Gate Nearly Ended It 'I'm Going to Have to Cancel the Trip'

Renewing an expired passport often takes days, if not weeks for some people. Content creator Liv Nevill (@livnevill) documents her travels on TikTok. But a day before her trip to Greece, she made a terrifying realization while she was packing her bags.

When she took her passport and flipped through the pages, she realized that it had already expired.

“I’m going to have to cancel the trip,” she said on TikTok. But she’d put too much into planning the trip to give up that easily. Upon checking her options, she decided to pay £200 for an emergency appointment so that she could have her passport renewed. Nevill wasted no time and boarded the train.

Even on her way to the appointment, her train got delayed. She was late to her appointment and almost missed her slot. While rushing for her passport, Nevill thought that cancelling her trip would be inevitable. But she got there in the nick of time and secured her new passport.

More transportation delays

She kept packing and everything seemed set. But upon leaving for the airport, the train station was crowded. Nevill missed her train again, and this time, it was supposed to bring her to the airport. She waited for another train for about an hour to come, but it was unfortunately cancelled.

When there’s a will, there’s a way. So, Nevill raced to get into another train, which also got delayed. It’s almost as if some invisible force were stopping Nevill from boarding the flight. The last thing she’d want is to be in a disastrous position like this woman, who got stuck in Dallas and had to sleep in a pillow fort of a hotel lobby, all because the plane left her behind.

But by some stroke of luck, Nevill made it to her plane just after boarding gates had closed. Several commenters on TikTok believed that Nevill may have encountered the delays for a reason. One TikTok user wrote, “Perhaps all of them were signs to not go on that solo trip.”

Meanwhile, other social media users expressed that they were stressed by Nevill’s decision to book a trip without checking her passport’s expiration date. The thought of booking a flight with an expired passport had internet users at the edge of their seats.

Outside of the superstitious remarks, some people applauded Nevill’s tenacity. They admired her grit to renew her passport instead of canceling the trip. It would have been easier to push her plans back, especially with the number of delays she faced in those two days.

A trip she would have regretted missing

Despite all the warnings telling her not to proceed with her trip to Greece, Nevill’s update tells a different story. She described her trip to Athens as “one of the best weeks” of her life. In her series ‘My Rom Com Summer,’ she documented watching the sunset, pushing herself out of her comfort zone by dining alone.

And then she met a Greek waiter who kept winking at her. He invited her for ice cream later on. Along the way, she met a group of girls she ended up partying and staying with. Did the trip go perfectly without a hitch? Not exactly, because Nevill almost missed her flight home after getting trapped in the apartment she was staying at.

Everything happens for a reason. Life can have a ton of minor inconveniences, but knowing how to move through these bumps in the road can change the outcome.
