A Woman Noticed Her Toe Had Grown Strangely Since a Childhood Injury, Then a Podiatrist Looked Closer, ‘That’s Not a Wart’

Just because something has been around a while on your body doesn't mean it's not dangerous.

Georgia Woman Noticed She Had a 'Bad' Toe. Then The Doctor Gave an Alarming Diagnosis 'It's Not a Wart'

Nobody’s perfect, and anyone who has ever gazed in the mirror for too long would notice their small imperfections. Hannah Beth (@hannahbethbatman) knew her toe was misshapen, but one doctor’s visit later, she was given a surprising diagnosis.

“It’s a strange, weird-looking toe, some might say,” Hannah described it on TikTok. No, she didn’t have an extra toe, as one biotech scientist hoped he’d find in his future wife. Simply put, her toe had a strange lump.

“Last time I was associated with a wedding, one of the bachelorette girls saw it, pointed it out, and asked about it,” she added. Hannah also disliked summer because her toe would be out in the open for people to scrutinize. She also said she hasn’t had a pedicure in two decades because of her oddly shaped toe. To be fair, nail salons aren’t always the friendliest of places. One woman from California even said that a nail tech talked smack about her over nail art.

Hannah decided to go to a podiatrist, a foot doctor, for her toe. “Hello doctor, I jammed my toe in the corner of a door when I was fourteen years old, and it grew funny,” Hannah told the doctor. She assumed that one incident from childhood was all it took for her toe to be misshapen.

“Jammed it in the door, you say? I see,” the doctor allegedly replied. Hannah told the doctor that she thinks the mass on her toe was a wart. According to Cleveland Clinic, those who suffer from a weakened immune system are prone to plantar warts. Children, teens, and seniors above 65 are also likely to get these warts.

She had something worse than a wart

“Yeah, it looks like it grew a wart, and now my toenail grows like a step. It’s weird,” Hannah further explained to her doctor. Her doctor examined her foot and said her toe had something more than a wart.

“That’s not a wart. It’s a tumor,” the doctor told Hannah. She continued the story by saying the doctor had to slice her nail bed, dig out the tumor, and send the remains to the pathologist to make sure the lump was benign. Not all tumors are malignant, but it helps to know about them early on. One dentist from Denver told her patient to get screened for cancer after noticing something strange about her teeth, and she ended up saving a life because of it.

Nevertheless, Hannah was distraught by the diagnosis. She also asked, “Doctor, will my nail grow back normal after that?” The doctor told her that they aren’t sure and she’ll only find out one year after the procedure.

In another video, Hannah showed the toe in question. It was the one after her big toe on her right foot, and there appeared to be a small bump below the nail bed. While the tumor diagnosis is a concern, some social media users pointed out that, at the very least, her toe didn’t look as monstrously mutated as they thought it would be.
