DoorDash driver picks up order at McDonald’s. Then he gets a text telling him to ‘hurry up.’ So he films a mukbang: ‘Sponsored by AJ’

Reports of DoorDash delivery drivers allegedly stealing customers’ food are not unheard of.

Just recently, for example, a Houston man claimed a driver stole his Wendy’s order, and then DoorDash reportedly denied his refund.

But something we do not usually get to see is the other side: what happens with the food after it allegedly gets “stolen” or not delivered for any other reason.

One DoorDash driver on TikTok decided to film a mukbang with an undelivered meal.

In his TikTok video, which got over 845,500 views, Aaron (@archgelic) sarcastically thanks “AJ” for the meal while explaining how he says he ended up in this situation.

Why Is This DoorDasher Eating A Customer’s Meal?

“Hello, ladies and gentlemen, today we’re gonna be doing a mukbang with someone else’s food, courtesy of AJ,” Aaron says at the start of the video, holding a McDonald’s delivery bag. “Thank you, AJ.”

According to Aaron, the reason the meal was “sponsored by AJ” is because the customer was rude and, in his view, created an unsafe situation.

“AJ was incredibly rude today and put my life in danger,” he says. “And I could not give him his food.”

Aaron says he picked up AJ’s McDonald’s order, then went to pick up a second order at Starbucks. According to him, the Starbucks order was only about 400 meters away, so he decided to walk over and grab both orders.

Then, once he got back in the car, he says AJ messaged him.

“Can you hurry up please,” the customer wrote.

Aaron says he responded with laughing emojis.

“That’s a little rude for $5,” he says. “I’m not gonna speed through traffic for $5. I’m not gonna speed through traffic for $40.”

According to Aaron, AJ then asked what was funny. Aaron says he replied that the customer would get the food when he delivered it.

Then he says the exchange escalated.

“He sends another message,” Aaron says. “Says, ‘thanks for being my little maid today and delivering my food. I reported you, by the way.’”

At that point, Aaron says he decided he was not going to complete the delivery.

He believes showing up at the customer’s address after that exchange could have gone badly.

“If I went to deliver the food, it probably would have been a fight, probably would have been hostile energy,” he says. “’Cause clearly he thinks he’s my owner, and I’m not going for that.”

So instead, Aaron ate the meal on camera.

“He’s gonna fight over $10 when I can just eat your $10 meal,” he says. “So thank you, AJ. You sponsored today’s meal.”

What Happens If A DoorDasher Never Delivers An Order?

If a customer doesn’t receive their order, DoorDash recommends they report it on the app immediately. Customers can do so by opening the order, tapping “Help,” choosing “Delivery Issues,” then selecting “Order never arrived” and following the prompts.

DoorDash says customers should report a missing order as soon as possible so the company can issue the “appropriate resolution.”

For the Dasher, on the other hand, an intentional non-delivery can have serious consequences. DoorDash says drivers can receive contract violations when they mark a delivery as completed, but the customer reports that they never received the order, for example.

However, in this case, Aaron did imply that he did not feel safe enough to deliver the order. In situations involving offensive language or unsafe chat interactions, DoorDash says Dashers can report the customer through the app. Its SafeChat feature may also give Dashers the option to unassign from the order before pickup or cancel the order after pickup, without affecting their ratings.

It’s not clear what steps Aaron took after deciding not to deliver the order, or whether he reported the interaction through DoorDash. The Mary Sue has reached out to him via TikTok direct messages to find out.

Comments Were Overwhelmingly On Aaron’s Side

In the comments, many viewers sided with Aaron.

“How can you disrespect somebody that has YOUR FOOD,” one commenter wrote.

“Shout out to AJ for the meal,” another wrote sarcastically.

Another commenter reported having experienced similar treatment while delivering for DoorDash.

“Idk what it is but I get disrespected CONSTANTLY doing Doordash,” thwy wrote. “Mfs really think your below them or something when your delivering [THEIR] food. Crazy work,” they wrote.
