Southwest Airlines Passenger Hears Bomb Threats Mid-Trip. Then Everyone is Ordered to Put Their Hands Up: ‘Scariest Moments of My Life’
The flight descended into fear.
A woman believed she was embarking on a simple two-hour flight from Nashville, Tennessee to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, only for the plane to descend into chaos and fear mid-journey. Content creator Secret (@urfav_secret3) shared on her TikTok the incident on a Southwest Airlines flight that captured the moment leading up to an arrest.
The incident reportedly occurred back in March on Southwest Airlines flight 2094. According to the video Secret shared, a bomb threat was allegedly made by a fellow passenger during the flight, prompting the flight crew to make an emergency landing in Atlanta, Georgia—similar to football star Lionel Messi, who also received a bomb threat and had to have a stadium evacuated. The aircraft was subsequently swarmed by the SWAT team and allegedly arrested someone at gunpoint.
Secret shared the moment she and the other passengers were ordered to duck their heads and raise their arms. In the background, what are allegedly the flight crew and responding officers could be heard chanting “heads down, hands up.” While Secret and her seatmates tried to obey the orders, the TikToker was visibly confused and worried about the situation. According to Secret’s caption, the entire ordeal lasted around nine hours.
Southwest kept them on the runway for hours
In a follow-up video, Secret shared more of what happened on the Southwest Airlines flight from her perspective. She claimed that 30 to 45 minutes into the flight, a commotion began with flight attendants running back and forth down the aisle with phones. Secret shared that she initially thought someone had a medical emergency after noticing a man kept standing up from his seat.
The aircraft eventually made an emergency landing. Secret alleges that the aircraft sat in the middle of the runway in Atlanta for nearly two hours, and information about what was happening at the time wasn’t given. Moments later, a SWAT team arrived: “The next thing we know, the SWAT team is on the plane, and they’re yelling, ‘Hands up.’”
Secret described the incident as “terrifying,” with the SWAT team decked in complete gear and “huge guns.” She alleges that concern was expressed by everyone over the potential violence, considering that guns were involved. Just recently, a mother became the target of her neighbor’s gun over a small dispute, making Secret’s worries valid.
A bomb threat that turned into a “misunderstanding”
While speculations on what happened aboard the flight became rampant online, NBC reported that the entire ordeal stemmed from a man’s phone alarm to pray for Ramadan setting off mid-flight. An FBI spokesperson confirmed there was no credible threat and charges wouldn’t be filed.
In a statement made by Southwest Airlines, the company claimed there was a “misunderstanding” due to a customer’s behavior and that the crew diverted to Atlanta “out of an abundance of caution.” The airline added, “We sincerely apologize to our Customers for the misunderstanding and the significant delay. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers.”
According to some TikTok users, the man may have been racially profiled following the confirmation that there was no actual bomb. “The guy did nothing wrong, he was setting a prayer timer since he was traveling in a different time zone. He is either Islam or Judist. The passenger next to him reported him. It was a false accusation and racial profiling,” a user said.
Others blasted the airline for inciting fear and confusion among its passengers for the way they handled the situation. “I think airlines need to rethink the telling. They are creating panic, not reducing it,” one commenter said. As for Secret, she believed Southwest Airlines could have better informed passengers on what was going on. Ultimately, they “took the right steps” in handling a potential bomb threat. The content creator was comforted to know everyone made it out safely.
